Reporting to the Director, Credit Risk Oversight & Analytics, Small Business, the Senior Manager will work closely with different stakeholders to ensure adequate credit strategies are developed and continuously optimized across the lifecycle (Originations, Account Management and Collections). The incumbent will drive analyses and provide strategic direction across the lifecycle including Small Business segments and industries, ensuring credit strategies are in adherence to the risk appetite and risk adjusted return is continuously optimized.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Contribute to the strategy development and processes for originations, credit limit management, authorization, pricing, re-issue, overlimit, and collections
- Collaborate with cross functional teams from IT, Operations, Collections Ops and project team, in addition to internal GRM teams to successfully implement Risk strategies, processes and functionalities included in business requirements
- Closely monitor performance to ensure each strategy decision area is delivering both optimal profitability and is aligned with the Bank’s Credit Risk Appetite
- Drive continuous improvement in strategy effectiveness with focus on incremental profitability.
- Leverage Champion / Challenger capabilities wherever possible to confirm assumptions and justify changes
- Identify root cause, making recommendations to senior management and implementing any recommended changes to any/ all of customer management business strategies
- Introduce changes under a test/control framework to help drive objective, evidence-based decisions that improve collection key performance metrics
- This position requires technical expertise including experience with risk technologies, portfolio management and behavior scoring to optimize strategies, policies and business rules. As well as a deep understanding of credit bureau information
- Develop and review documentation for risk and technical requirement including DRE/TRIAD strategies
- Liaise closely with external vendors (FICO/TSYS) and internal stakeholders (Revolving technology and Business team) to ensure technical mandates, requirements and specifications of new variables or strategy changes are processed accurately in DRE/TRIAD
- Manage escalations in technology issues with internal stakeholders/external vendors to ensure overall end-to-end processes are intact
- Command emerging solutions available to strategy teams and plan enhancement opportunities to test and learn within the confines of Bank standards.
- Ensure alignment in all technology change implementation and coordinate testing with technology & operations teams
- Negotiate priorities with internal stakeholders (Business, IT and Risk technology) to support strategic initiatives
- Monitor, assess and evaluate overall credit strategies as well as overall portfolio performance. Through various dimensions of analysis, work closely with business partners to develop actionable tactical recommendations to enhance program effectiveness and profitability
- Identify if any credit risks are or will become in excess of the Risk Appetite Framework. Move quickly to rectify including: identifying root cause, making recommendations to senior management, and implementing changes to portfolio and business line strategies
- Work with GRM analytics, Canadian business, and product partners to ensure credit strategies across the lifecycle are developed using best practices including decision science and strategies follow divisional minimum standards
- Interact with credit risk departments across International Banking and various vendors (FICO, TransUnion, Equifax) to ensure all credit risk customer management strategies meet industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement.
- Contribute to an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- University degree in mathematics, economics, or fields related
- 1 – 5 years of relevant work experience
- Sound understanding of behaviour scoring, optimize strategies, policies and business rules
- A deep understanding of credit bureau information
- Strong understanding of retail & Small Business products, programs, processes, 3rd party vendors, policies, regulatory requirements and internal compliance requirements
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, with ability to manage ambiguity
- Strategic orientation with strong innovative and integrative acumen
- Strong analytical skills and ability to design and interpret information/data required to monitor the performance
- Programming skills in SAS, Python, SQL, Angoss, etc.
- Able to effectively manage relationships across the Bank
- Excellent Executive communication and storyboarding skills
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate an effective team environment
- Highly organized with proven ability to make decisions in time pressured environment
- Expert knowledge of BNS organizational structure, key stakeholders and partners. Able to develop and maintain relationships to garner support for strategic initiatives
