Contributes to the overall success of the Credit Risk Provisions and Analytics / GRM globally, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Provides credit risk analytics and insights for Expected Credit Loss (ECL), Provision for Credit Loss (PCL), for Business Lines, Subsidiaries, Branches, Senior Management, Finance and other stakeholders.
  • Works closely with key stakeholders in developing the IFRS 9 end-to-end process, which includes project planning, data reconciliation, model implementation, control process, governance and reporting
  • Provides support in preparing IFRS 9 results to senior management and to the relevant business units, as well as providing analytics based on the underlying data.
  • Understands key components of IFRS9 models such as PD, LGD, EAD and macroeconomic factors, as well as the fundamentals of the main Business Banking products.
  • Continuously finds ways to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the ECL process.
  • Performs and reviews analysis for ad-hoc requests from business units, business lines, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Performs and reviews peer comparison analysis for senior management on the most important quarterly metrics related to provisions based on the quarterly financial results of the major banks.
  • Applies specialized knowledge of Expected credit loss methodology as per IFRS 9. Assists the internal and external ECL reporting and disclosure, across all business lines.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong programming skills, SQL and Python are preferred.
  • Experience with Power BI and other BI tools is preferred but not mandatory
  • Comfort and experience working in a project context and juggling multiple competing priorities
  • Spanish proficiency is an advantage
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to work under tight timelines.
  • Bachelor / master’s in accounting, Business, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics.
  • Professional qualification such as CPA / CMA/ CGA / CFA is an added advantage.
