The Manager Credit Risk contributes to the overall success of the GRM globally ensuring accountabilities, goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s strategies and objectives. They will also ensure all activities conducted are within the Bank’s risk appetite, and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies & procedures.

 

Is this role right for you?  In this role, you will:

 

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Maintain a healthy partnership with business line counterparts. ·
  • Contribute to the profitable and safety growth of a loan portfolio comprising Corporate and Commercial accounts within assigned portfolios.
  • Review pertinent financial and industry information and perform in depth risk assessment of incoming credit applications:
    • Develop industry & regional expertise and ensure the ongoing quality of the credit portfolio through the review of publications, the assessment of monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages, and discussions with the applicable banking officers.
    • Ensure appropriate analysis, use of models and assignment of Borrower and Guarantor risk ratings in compliance with Bank guidelines and policy.
    • Anticipate risks that could lead to deterioration of the portfolio and/or Bank’s position with a customer, recommending appropriate courses of action.
    • Identify risk mitigation opportunities and develop/maintain portfolio reports that support this function.
    • Provide credit authorizations that clearly communicate the terms and conditions of the adjudication.
    • Ensure appropriate documentation is on file to support adjudiation risk ratings decisions.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is required
  • MBA and/or Finance-related professional designations (e.g. CPA, CFA, etc) are assets.
  • Experience in credit analysis in Corporate and/or Commercial Banking or Credit roles, including but not limited to: understanding of credit structures and protections, credit documentation, and financial projections.
  • Curiosity, ability to learn and to apply newly acquired knowledge to daily tasks
  • Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple (often shifting) priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills to elaborate and support credit decisions before internal stakeholders (e.g. Global Risk Management and Banking counterparts).
  • Negotiation and problem-resolution skills to reach agreements with business line partners.
