Purpose

The Manager, Canadian Commercial Banking Finance plays a key role in providing finance support to Commercial Banking, and Canadian Banking Finance, contributing to the business line’s strategic direction and results as well as to the integrity of the business line financials, systems and reporting. The position reports to the Director, Commercial Banking Finance Business Partner, CB Finance and supports in the following areas:

  • Manage financial planning, forecasting and reporting for the full P&L
  • Provide Month-end, Quarter-end and Year-end reporting and analysis of business line results
  • Enhance financial models and reporting packages for planning, tracking and reporting on business line performance and various initiatives 
  • Support stakeholder management within the business line, finance and support functions
  • Enhance collaboration with key partners in Commercial Banking, Treasury and GTB
  • Introduce deeper financial planning and analysis including roll out of Anaplan and enhanced product and sub business line level forecasting and planning
  • Support strategic initiative development and validation
  • Track Non-Interest Expenses across all segments and regions
  • In fulfilling the role, the incumbent must work with the various leaders within Business, Finance and other internal partners. In addition, the incumbent will also lead various projects

Champion a customer focused culture to deepen relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

Planning and forecasting:

  • Manage annual Profit Plans and forecasts and monitor P&L to ensure budget compliance
  • Oversee accurate forecasts by carefully observing trends in Balance Sheet and P&L, and liaise with the field and partners
  • Identify drivers, solve concerns and summarize and provide commentary and recommendations to business line and finance leadership teams
  • Work closely with stakeholders in business line, finance and partners to ensure effective and timely execution
  • Manage the roll out of new planning and forecasting tools including Anaplan
  • Deepen financial reporting and KPIs to segment and regional views

 

Financial analysis, review and tracking of business line results:

  • Mange the preparation of Bluebook, KPIs, and all monthly and quarterly reporting and dashboards such as MMR and MPC
  • Oversee reporting on actuals vs. plan volumes, revenue, margins, expenses
  • Review the submissions for reasonability and work with partners in providing accurate data and proper explanations

 

Perform ad hoc projects and manage relationships with key stakeholders:

  • Cultivate and manage relationships within the business line, partners and support functions to provide top-notch support to all activities and initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommend alternates to meet initiative objectives and deadlines while improving efficiencies and enhancing collaboration
  • Support projects and business case development and tracking of all strategic initiatives including SIP
  • Support the Commercial Banking business as a finance subject matter expert, including on areas such as regarding asset forecast and expense management
  • Manage Commercial Banking expense accruals and amortization entries
  • Review for business line invoices >$10K (Smartbuy) and fulfilment of 250As from partners
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • CPA, CFA preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in a related position with strong knowledge in managerial accounting and financial management
  • Very strong in Excel, PowerPoint and Word and the Bank’s accounting/finance systems such as OBI, Hyperion, Smart stream, and Anaplan   
  • Attention to detail with superior analytical and presentation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong process management, planning and organization skills to facilitate teamwork and coordinate execution of multiple deliverables
  • Good understanding of the Bank’s established processes, policies and guidelines around financial accounting and financial management
  • Flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of tasks & functions with changing demands
  • High level of curiosity, energy, commitment and strong sense of teamwork are needed to be successful in the role
