Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Canadian Banking Operational Resilience Program ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
The Manager, CB Operational Resilience supports the Canadian Banking Operational Resilience Program and will work closely with Canadian Banking Business Lines & Support Functions to fulfill the program mandate. In addition, the incumbent will support the implementation and sustainment of a strong risk culture and effective control environment for Canadian Banking
Accountabilities
- Supports the Director, CB Operational Resilience, in the execution of the Canadian Banking Operational Resilience program.
- Works closely with the Director, CB Operational Resilience & Senior Manager, Non-Financial Risk, on supporting the execution of the identification of Critical Operations (COs) and the mapping of people, premises, processes, vendors and technology against COs. Once this is complete, consolidating identified vulnerabilities and outlining coordinated remediation efforts.
- Support CO assessment(s) by executing and tracking Requests for Information by preparing detailed templates, identifying appropriate recipients, and ensuring timely follow-ups.
- Maintain strong relationships with key partners (Enterprise Operational Resilience, Global Operational Risk) and represent Canadian Banking on Enterprise Operational Resilience initiatives/requests.
- Assists the Director and Senior Manager(s) with executing on Scenario Analysis/Testing in support of the Enterprise Scenario Analysis Program and general resilience.
- Supports ad-hoc activities related to Canadian Banking Business Continuity Management (BCM), Incident Management, Operational Risk Programs (RCSA, KRI, NIRA), and Regulatory Compliance (Issues Management, CRCA).
- Assist the Director with developing and executing on the annual Canadian Banking Non-Financial Risk strategy and plan.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of risk and compliance policies, processes, and activities.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, emerging risks and industry best practices in risk and compliance management.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen customer relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML / ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Dimensions
• Accountability for partnering with relevant stakeholders across the Bank on execution of the Operational Resilience Program.
• Strong background in facilitation and developing presentations for Director+ audience.
• Proven track record of success in a matrix organization leading and/or influencing cross-functional teams, including senior management.
Education / Experience / Other Information
• Bachelor’s degree
• 4+ years of experience in Non-Financial Risk Management, Business Continuity, or Audit in the financial services industry or 6+ years of relevant Banking experience.
• Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and operational risks impacting the Bank and the importance of key mitigating controls.
• Experience with identifying, documenting, and assessing risk and controls within the first line.
• Strong understanding of OSFI B-13, B-10, and E-21.
• Experience with process mapping (MS Visio) is an asset.
• Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to effectively communicate with business partners at all levels of the Bank.
• Proven leadership and time-management skills.
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiating skills.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Visio.
