Purpose

Global Finance creates customer and shareholder value by providing financial leadership to our business partners with insightful financial analysis, and maintaining effective financial controls, through a team of highly motivated finance professionals.  The Reporting department within Global Finance plays a key role in the reporting and analysis of the Bank's financial results at both the All Bank and Divisional levels.  Global Finance - Reporting, a finance function providing financial management and analytical support to Executive Management. The Global Finance team supports Canadian Banking, Global Banking and Markets, and Executive Office business units. This role currently reports to the Senior Manager. The manager will provide comprehensive financial review, analysis, and evaluation of various business unit's financial performance for periodic reporting. All activities must be conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Be accountable for the integrity and analysis of all aspects of the financial results and analysis produced by his/her team.
  • Manage the delivery and perform the reasonability of the periodic financial results (Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet and other metrics) on a timely basis while ensuring data accuracy and completeness.

 

  • Manage the delivery of periodic reporting on statutory and business line result for Global Banking and Markets:
    • Manage delivery of periodic reasonability of both statutory and business line financial results by ensuring the timely identification and resolution of all material issues. Maintain and implement new controls where needed.
    • Manage the periodic processing of EGL entries by ensuring their accuracy and completeness.  All entries must be processed within strict periodic timetables.
    • Coordinate and manage the periodic update of business line rules required to produce business line results.
    • Work with all stakeholder finance partners to ensure the completeness, relevancy and accuracy of externally published reports, such as the MD&A, Investor Package and Supplementary Package, and other internal management reports.

 

  • Analyze business line results while translating into meaningful and insightful management reports.
    • Implement changes that are required to support strategic business changes and management decisions.
    • Review, analyze and prepare statutory journal entries, ensuring accuracy and completeness. All entries must be processed within strict periodic timetables as published by Global Finance Technology on a periodic basis.
    • Maintain and develop strong controls over operational and analytical processes.

 

  • Communicate and resolve accounting and reporting issues with business units and management.
    • Communicate with individuals in various business units during periodic close and on an ongoing basis to coordinate and collect financial data from business units.
    • Communicate and resolve accounting and reporting issues with business units and management.
    • Liaise closely with business line and EO Finance partners to maintain knowledge of emerging business line issues that impact various business lines and to effectively resolve them.

 

  • Maintain and develop strong controls over operational and analytical processes.
  • Implement changes that are required to support strategic business changes and management decisions.
  • Identify and act upon efficiency opportunities.
  • Participate in projects as assigned in support of department goals.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Accounting designation Canadian CPA (CMA, CGA, CA) or MBA, with at least 3 years related work experience is required.
  • Solid business acumen and strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to relate financial data to business results and identify issues and trends.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication abilities to execute varied activities within tight deadlines and deliver with a great amount of accuracy and completeness whilst demonstrating excellent time management skills. 
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in written form, with individuals at different levels and a variety of skill sets and organizational perspectives.
  • Good proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Excel, e.g., XLOOKUP, SUMMIF, SUMMPRODUCT, PIVOT; Word, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of financial software such as EGL and OBI is an asset.
  • Ability to relate financial data to business results and identify issues and trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and provide forward thinking recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills such as the ability to communicate findings/analysis and present ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong leadership skills and stewardship capabilities in a complex and changing environment.
  • Solid understanding of financial and management accounting standards.
  • Proven quantitative and financial analytical skills.
  • Highly organized with demonstrated experience in solving problems and making decisions in time sensitive environments. This involves the ability to work quickly and accurately under tight time frame for quarter end reporting and be able to multitask effectively.
  • Solid understanding of the elements of effective control over accuracy and completeness of data.
