Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking and Markets (GBM) conducts the Bank’s wholesale banking and capital markets business with corporate, government and institutional investor clients. GBM is a full-service wholesale bank and investment dealer in Canada and Mexico and offers a range of products and services in the U.S., Latin America and in select markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

 

More specifically, GBM provides clients with corporate lending; transaction banking (including payments, trade finance and cash management); investment banking (including corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions); fixed income and equity underwriting, sales, trading and research; prime services (prime brokerage and stock lending); foreign exchange sales and trading; commodity derivatives; and collateral management.

 

Purpose:

Contributes to the overall success of the GBM Business Continuity and Operational Resilience team, ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives globally. Primarily focused on operational resilience but will also support business continuity and crisis management tasks as required. Ensures all activities are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Provide back-up to the Senior Manager of Business Continuity and Operational Resilience during his/her absence
  • Contribute to Operational Resilience planning sessions to determine GBM Canada critical operations, impact tolerances, process mapping, minimum viable operations, creation of playbooks, vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts
  • Lead Operational Resilience self-assessments for GBM critical operations and document outcomes
  • Manage issues and track remediations resulting from vulnerability assessments and scenario tests
  • Monitor Incidents as they relate to Operational Resilience
  • Collaborate with Business Lines (BLs) and risk management functions (e.g., ECM, GRM) to support the development of plans that strengthen organizational resilience through the prevention, adaptation, response, recovery, and continuous improvement following disruptions
  • Prepare operational resilience related materials for exercises, committees, crisis task forces and WGs (external and internal)
  • Assist in audit requests and remediation efforts for GBM operational resilience issues
  • Ensure alignment between business continuity and operational resilience activities
  • Support business continuity and incident management efforts as required
  • Assist with after-hours monitoring of incidents and escalation chats
  • Understand how the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of your respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, Code of Conduct and Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in business-related studies or equivalent
  • Experience and Knowledge of Operational Resilience and OSFI E-21 an asset
  • Experience in Business Continuity an asset
  • Knowledge and skills in project management
  • Advanced computer skills particularly MS Office (Excel, Word and Power Point, Power BI)
  • Detail oriented, with strong organizational, presentation and communications skills
  • Strong collaboration skills and able to work independently

 

Work Arrangement: 

This position is an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
