Creditor insurance is a complex business impacted by the underlying credit products, strategies and processes in addition to insurance-specific factors.


The Manager, Analytics provides budgeting and financial analysis for the CP&O team. The position reconciles financial data from a variety of sources and prepares complex and comprehensive financial analyses and reports to support business line management activities as well as cost forecasting and reporting to support the budget and business case management processes.


The incumbent’s primary responsibilities are to:

  1. Support development of strategic growth initiatives
  2. Financial and cost management
  3. Monitor business performance and provide on-going analysis of the business using business intelligence strategies
  4. Support cross-functional efforts of the team’s ongoing analytics & reporting mandate



  1. Financial Management

    Proactively monitor profitability and insurance risk, and provide strategic solutions to mitigate risk and maintain profitability by developing and maintaining optimal, efficient and accurate financial management and reporting system using data from multiple sources: BNS systems, multiple insurers, actuarial systems, third party vendors.

  • Act as key contact and lead financial management and reporting with Finance.
  • Develop, maintain and streamline financial reporting, financial budgeting and accounting.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create reporting which supports the end-to-end insurance business (ie. Revenue, remittance, claims, underwriting, settlements, general ledger reconciliations, expenses, etc.)
  • Monitor and report on key financial performance indicators including premium, claims and expense results and trends monthly.
  • Manage financial risk through monitoring of claims experience, underwriting and process/policy changes.
  • Create and maintain financial management database and processes to produce timely reports.
  • Become the subject matter expert on financial reporting and management.


2.  Business Performance & Analysis - BI & Analytics

Support/Develop Creditor insurance analytics strategy & framework, manage in-house business analytics, product design & pricing capabilities – including infrastructure, data warehousing and data mining/analytical integration of Bank and Insurance platforms in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Develop Creditor Insurance KPI dashboards to evaluate business performance in timely & accurate manner.

Perform and deliver on ad-hoc reporting and requests from variety of functions within Creditor Insurance such as Actuarial, Distribution, Products, Operations, Audit, Digital, etc. , providing input into customer strategy, value propositions, etc 

  • Communication and presentation of insights and trends
    • Calculate and distribute approved reports and insights to management team and other identified audiences.

3.  Strategic Initiatives

Support the Senior Manager in development of new products and strategies for distribution through Bank channels and third party/open architecture distribution channels. 

  • Product, channel and market development
  • Support market and product intelligence/research to support market development – Market/ industry, regulatory, local economic conditions/restrictions, legal, compliance, insurance and banking laws, social/demographic impacts and existing infrastructures.
  • Support development of business cases for executive approvals.
  • Market and industry research
  • Support/Initiate emerging markets and trends research and analysis.
  • Provide meaningful, relevant and insightful analysis of customer data, market trends, industry best practices and actionable recommendations to senior management to maximize premium and NIAT growth. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely information is provided.


Skills and Education:


  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related discipline


Must have:

  • Strong experience with financial accounting and financial reporting.
  • Expert use of MS Office skills, particularly with Excel (building financial models)
  • Deep experience with data analysis techniques
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting and forecasting functions, accounting and financial reporting systems.
  • Aptitude to execute on ad-hoc analytics initiatives

  • Strong ability to independently manage personal workload
  • High degree of attention to details especially working with numbers and dollars
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry, outside market and competitive products
  • Flexible and adaptable within a dynamic business environment
  • Ability and willingness to continually learn new technology and skills
  • Aptitude for database programming (SAS, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience with BI Tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) is an asset.
