What does Innovation at Scotia really mean?

If you’re picturing Elon Musk on the verge of an epiphany, yelling “we need to create a sustainable energy resource!” then you’re…. well, actually, you’re not that far off, we’re all a little mad here. We're working on some really cool initiatives on the Innovation team. We're establishing Scotiabank’s presence in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem while optimizing value from our partnerships. Our goal is to become the catalyst of innovation and position our bank as a leader in both the Financial Services industry and in our customers’ day to day lives by accelerating technology, business, and talent capabilities.

Who would I be working with and what are they like?

We're a close-knit team that genuinely enjoys spending time with one another outside of the office, and we don't take each other too seriously!  We love to collaborate on a number of initiatives, but we also spend a lot of our time entrenched in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, ultimately helping to reshape it. We deliver tangible benefits for our internal businesses and participate in various events globally where we learn from other global players.

Sounds intriguing… but do I fit in?

We recruit for three key talent areas in Innovation that are closely intertwined:

Relationship Management: We identify and manage relationships with key business partners at Scotiabank and with emerging external ventures in the global ecosystem. We uncover business needs and problems and bring thought leadership from the industry and ecosystem to help solve them. If you’re a natural storyteller with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, and if you’re confident, tactful, and highly persuasive and influential, then this is a great place for you to thrive.

Research & Development (R&D): Right now we’re focused on building an R&D innovation practice across the organization, looking to challenge ourselves from both a technology and business perspective. If you’re curious by nature, pragmatic but open, analytical, and motivated to make a change in the way we deliver banking to our customers today, then you’d be a great fit for this team. Someone who values convergence as an opportunity to intersect technology and customer needs while delivering business value would be very successful in R&D at Scotiabank.

Proof of Concept (POC) Execution: We met with the business and uncovered their needs, we did a ton of research and development to identify potential opportunities to solve their problems, and now we have this awesome initiative we want to onboard: now, enter the POC Execution team. We deliver the execution of proof of concepts to help our business partners rapidly validate concepts and ideas. We’re in the process of re-designing our POC lifecycle – a great opportunity for someone to help us build something from the ground up! If you’re organized, have dealt with control functions, are skilled in managing and delivering technology projects, and have an outstanding ability to connect business needs throughout the organization and partners, then this is the perfect place for you to hone your skills and make an impact.
