About the Instructional Designer, Digital Accessibility

The Instructional Designer will champion inclusive design and web accessibility through education and training and contribute to building an inclusive design culture in Digital Banking. You are responsible for conducting web accessibility training needs assessments, designing and delivering curriculum and learning materials to build accessibility capacity across multi-disciplinary teams in Digital Banking.


What will you do in this role?

  • Design and delivery of a digital accessibility training plan that captures accessibility concepts and principles, builds empathy and develops role specific skills for product owners, designers, engineers and testers.
  • Develop / oversee the production of instructional materials, aids and manuals, online resources and communications.
  • Regularly assess training effectiveness and provide evidence of learning success.
  • Manage the Digital Accessibility Portal.
  • Provide leadership in the creation and delivery of inclusive and accessible learning experiences.
  • Work with Digital Banking teams in a self-organized way to support agile working practice, to problem solve and to make things happen
  • Engage thoughtfully, collaboratively and diplomatically with the engineering and business teams to identify the right training and coaching needed to drive accessibility efforts.    
  • Work closely with accessibility, design and usability specialists within Scotiabank.  
  • Actively participate and contribute to the Design Community of Practice


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have 2 - 5 years of instructional design experience.
  • You have a proven ability to effectively communicate the complexities and opportunities of accessibility and inclusive design principles and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences with various skillsets.
  • You have a high level awareness of disability related issues with respect to digital accessibility.
  • It would be great if you have a strong understanding of usability and user interface design principles.
  • It would also be great if you have knowledge of accessibility standards and principles including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • It would also be great if you have knowledge of assistive technology including screen readers, print magnification software and alternative input systems.
