Title:  IT Risk and Audit Control Specialist

Requisition ID: 137838

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Scotiabank's Global Capital Markets Engineering (GCME) team is responsible for the technology supporting capital markets front, middle, and back-office.  We support our lines of business through a mix of custom-built and vendor technology.

We are looking for an individual to lead an operational function designed to improve our ability to effectively engage with our audit, compliance, and risk partners across the Bank.  Specifically, we are looking for an individual who can act as a bridge between application teams, control functions, and management.  The individual will have an interest in applying their IT Risk management principles to a diverse mix of technologies supporting the demanding capital markets space.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Create value for Scotiabank by being the expert who can bridge between technology focused application teams and control functions while responding to the majority of control function requests through the creation and curation of a library of knowledge about how GCMT systems are designed and operate

Is this role right for you?

  • You want to use your knowledge to add value and not act solely as an administrative function
  • You are comfortable with the challenge of building scalable processes from the ground up
  • You enjoy solving problems through collaboration and building relationships across a disparate set of areas
  • You enjoy working in an environment where the pace of work is quick, and expectations are high
  • You have a deep-seated interest in the intersection of technology and capital markets
  • You understand that business value drives our decision making

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Extensive experience dealing with external and internal auditors' capital markets audit practices.
  • You are an excellent communicator, both orally and in writing
  • You have deep familiarity with the meaning of “compensating control”, “inherent risk”, “residual risk”, and “first/second/third line of defense” and how they apply to the controls and processes expected of a highly regulated global bank
  • You can debate the operational risk ramifications of different technology operating models (e.g., custom built, self-run vendor software, managed-services vendor software)
  • You are comfortable operating with ambiguity
  • You are intrinsically motivated and have the ability to self-prioritize to maximize value
  • Capital markets knowledge would help, including knowledge of business and technology regulatory regimes provided and enforced by government regulatory bodies and industry self-regulatory bodies in major capital markets (US, Canadian, EEA, etc.).
  • Although not required, a relevant certification would help demonstrate your professional background, e.g., Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified in Risk and Information System Control (CRISC).
