Group Lead and Director, Healthcare & Professional Banking (Central Canada), Business Banking
Purpose
As Group Lead, Healthcare & Professionals Business Banking (Central Canada), you will champion and lead the Healthcare & Professionals Business Banking strategy within the assigned Region, aligned to national segment priorities and Business Banking objectives. The role is responsible for driving profitable growth, portfolio quality, and client experience outcomes through strong sales leadership, disciplined risk and governance, and effective execution of established segment strategies and priorities. The Group Lead in the Region will be primarily lead for the Scotia Professional Student Plan and Professional Capital Loan national programs.
This role is ideal for a high‑performing sales leader who combines commercial intensity with disciplined execution, and who thrives in complex, relationship‑driven environments like healthcare, professional services, or specialty banking segments.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead, coach, and motivate your team to exceed sales and revenue objectives. Recognize and reward excellence, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Strategic Growth: Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, build strategic partnerships, and collaborate with key partners across various business lines to achieve objectives.
- Client Relationship Management: Manage and deepen relationships with key clients, industry experts, universities, and professional associations. Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Performance Management: Actively manage the performance of your team, providing timely training, feedback, and development opportunities. Ensure that all team members are aligned with the overall business strategy and goals.
- Market Expertise: Maintain a thorough understanding of the healthcare and professional markets, including career and business life-cycle stages. Leverage this knowledge to provide tailored solutions to clients.
Detailed Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Regional Strategy Execution & Business Performance
- Execute the Healthcare & Professionals Business Banking strategy within the Region, aligned with National and Business Banking priorities.
- Translate segment and regional objectives into clear operating plans with defined financial and non-financial targets.
- Accountable for regional results including revenue growth, portfolio performance, client acquisition, and expense management.
- Monitor regional market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs to inform tactical adjustments to plans.
- Provide market insights and performance feedback to senior regional leadership and segment partners.
Sales & Market Leadership
- Lead regional sales and market acquisition strategies to drive new‑to‑bank growth and deepen existing Healthcare & Professionals client relationships.
- Establish disciplined sales management routines, including pipeline oversight, performance tracking, and activity management.
- Promote a client‑centric “total relationship” approach integrating business lending, deposits, payments, and adjacent solutions (e.g. Wealth Management and Retail)
- Build and maintain Centres of Influence (COI) relationships across the Region to support client acquisition and brand visibility.
- Collaborate with District and Regional banking leadership teams to align priorities and execution.
- Represent the Healthcare & Professionals business at regional industry and community events.
People Leadership & Talent Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of managers and senior individual contributors across the Region.
- Set clear performance expectations and hold teams accountable for results and behaviors.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance management, including recognition of strong performance and management of underperformance. Strong coach who elevates leaders, not just outcomes
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning for key roles within the regional Healthcare & Professionals team.
- Foster a strong performance, inclusion, and client‑focused culture
Client Experience & Service Delivery
- Ensure high-quality advice and service standards are consistently delivered across the regional Healthcare & Professionals portfolio.
- Support end‑to‑end relationship, credit origination and account management processes, ensuring onboarding and credit applications are complete, timely, and aligned with service level expectations.
- Work closely with product, policy, adjudication, servicing and funding teams to support efficient and effective credit delivery.
- Address service gaps, process inefficiencies, and client escalations within the Region.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to simplify processes and enhance the client and employee experience.
Risk Management & Governance
- Accountable for credit quality, portfolio soundness, and risk outcomes within the Region.
- Ensure ongoing adherence to Bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including AML/ATF, KYC, privacy, and conduct standards.
- Identify emerging risks or deteriorating trends and ensure timely mitigation and escalation.
- Ensure delegated lending and operational authorities are exercised appropriately and consistently.
- Act as the senior regional escalation point for material credit, risk, and compliance matters.

- Deliver performance against scorecard including key metrics such as: Net portfolio growth, client acquisition growth, client experience, compliance, employee engagement, and revenue/fee income
- Based within the assigned Region with regular travel to branches, clients, and Centres of Influence.
- Occasional evening or weekend commitments to support client and market events.
- Fast‑paced environment with competing priorities and time‑sensitive decisions.
- Operates independently within established Business Banking policies, risk appetite, and governance frameworks.
- Makes decisions impacting regional portfolio performance, client outcomes, and team effectiveness.
- Exercises discretion in prioritization, resource deployment, and execution of regional initiatives.
- Escalates exceptions or material issues beyond delegated authority.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- University degree required; MBA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in Business Banking, Commercial Banking, or Financial Services.
- Proven experience leading sales and account management teams within a regional mandate.
- Strong knowledge of Business Banking products, credit structures, and risk management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver financial results, manage risk, and lead teams through complexity.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant retail and business banking (such as the Scotiabank Professional Program) product solutions and services available for healthcare and professional clients
- Thorough knowledge of business banking, private banking or commercial credit principles
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Expert interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop solid centre of influence, partner and client relationships.
Working Conditions
Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. The position is primarily non-physical; however, limited travel within the Greater Toronto Area may be required for client meetings.
