Reporting to the CISO & Senior Vice President Information Security & Control, the Global Head, Data Security, will be responsible for leading a team of data security experts in implementing and deploying new and emerging data management and protection models, standards and technologies that are required to keep the Bank and its customers safe and secure globally.
Accountabilities:
- Design a proactive global data strategy that ensures data is properly secured regardless of its environment or where it’s located
- Design a data management model for how we model and manage unstructured data
- Lead a team of data and cyber security technologists to implement and maintain new data security standards and technology across the Bank globally. Understand the content, usage, external governing regulations and how to implement solutions across all of the geographies in which Scotiabank operates.
- Determine appropriate controls with key stakeholders
- Procure technology according to the Bank’s Enterprise Delivery Framework
- Budgeting, forecasting and financial oversight of the total cost of new technology implementation
- Ensure that we stay current and aligned to the market and dynamic regulatory changes over data residency
- Evaluate external data management practices to ensure that third parties are appropriately protecting Bank data
- Provide strategic direction to the team to identify, manage and manipulate data that enables prompt identification of abnormal activity that could indicate an active internal or external threat to the Bank
- Partner with the Data and Analytics team to understand and influence the sensitivity and classification of business data to ensure that it is appropriately protected regardless of where it is stored.
- Partner with the Privacy Office and Compliance teams globally to ensure that we are meeting country-specific requirements.
- Provide data domain expertise to the cyber strategy by developing roadmaps to represent current and future state
- Champion innovative and proven data protection approaches and create cross-bank awareness across Digital Factories; Architecture and Engineering teams, Global Technology Services, Data and Analytics, Information Security & Control and other key stakeholders to implement and operationalize new data security technologies which will reduce the invested effort before discovering a problem
- Represent the bank and partner with new and emerging technology vendors, including Venture Capital partnerships, which will benefit the bank (Examples include RiskIQ, Team8/Sygnia, etc.)
- Keep abreast of new technologies and maintain the data security component of the Cyber Security roadmap.
- Continually research and explore opportunities to simplify processes and technologies and associated costs, and continuously evaluate our existing processes and toolsets against best-in-class alternatives.
- Maintain deep communications and positive external relations across the cyber/ financial industry.
- Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
- Expert knowledge of data security solutions, data models, systems architectures, operational models, security techniques and standards such as NIST and the MITRE ATT&CK framework
- Five plus years experience leading large, global teams, and 10+ years in data or Cybersecurity roles
- Proven ability to engage and influence multi-disciplinary Executive Stakeholders
