Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange and precious & metals.  We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

 

Your Work Term At-A-Glance:

 

Modern stock trading is increasingly a technology problem, as firms compete to build the fastest and smartest trading algorithms and systems. Scotiabank's Electronic Execution Services group develops customized algorithmic trading and smart order routing strategies with execute billions of dollars of equity trades each month. We work directly with the equity trading groups to give them the tools needed to compete in an evolving marketplace.

Students are key members of our team. During your term, you will develop, manage, and run systems which are integral to our business, while also gaining a unique view into the workings of trading at one of Canada's largest investment banks. This internship is a great opportunity for anyone looking to launch their career in the FinTech space! Many of the full-time team members come from this program.

 

Responsibilities:

 

During your internship, you will:

  • Develop trading applications and algorithmic trading toold leveraging new technologies including AI and Deep Learning 
  • Assist traders in day to day desk functions
  • Work on projects for a variety of internal trading desks
  • Create automated reports on trading activity for clients and internal use
  • Design and manage databases containing market data and trade information

 

Qualifications:

 

 This role is for you if you are/have: 

  • Strong programming and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior experience in one or more of C++, Java, SQL, Python, JS, Angular, and C#
  • Knowledge of or a passion for the financial markets is helpful but not required
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • High professional standards
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts
