As a Tax Specialist within the Fund Tax group, you will support the oversight, review, and reporting of tax distributions for Canadian investment funds while ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations. You will contribute to tax reporting, compliance initiatives, and technical tax matters impacting investment funds.

 

This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work within established tax processes to mitigate risk and drive operational excellence.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Contribute to a client-focused culture by leveraging relationships, systems, and knowledge across the Fund Tax team.
  • Support the Fund Tax team by providing technical tax guidance to operational partners.
  • Assist in engagements with external tax advisors on fund-related tax matters, as required.
  • Support oversight of investment fund distributions, including managing service provider relationships and year-end tax processes.
  • Participate in fund tax compliance activities, including the preparation and review of annual tax returns and regulatory filings.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and support related implementation initiatives.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries, audits, assessments, and reviews from tax authorities, internal stakeholders, and service providers.
  • Understand and apply the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decision-making.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and applicable risk and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvements that enhance operational effectiveness, efficiency, and controls.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? 

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA designation completed or in progress, or another relevant accounting/tax designation.
  • Willingness to pursue advanced tax education (e.g., CPA In-Depth Tax Program).
  • Knowledge of taxation and/or investment funds.
  • Experience with investment fund tax reporting, including trusts, corporations, and limited partnerships.
  • Strong tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong client service orientation with the ability to build effective partnerships across teams.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on enhancing controls and operational efficiency.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to manage complex deliverables under statutory deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines, including occasional evening or weekend work during peak periods.
