Purpose
As the Director, Financial Accounting & Business Support of Cedar Leaf Capital, accountable to the Board to provide effective leadership and management of all aspects of the audited regulatory and statutory financial statements, review and approve tax filings, audits and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial results presented to the Boards.

Contribute to divisional and/or legal entities’ objectives and provides support to new trading related initiatives and acquisitions, commitment to enhance operational and reputational risk management while ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory and tax requirements and improving efficiencies.

Provide effective Board representation, stewardship, duty of care, fiduciary and supervisory oversight; ensure business affairs of the legal entities are in alignment with Scotiabank’s global strategy, standards and policies and procedures.
Represent the corporation in various committees and working groups of the Investment Industry.
 
What You’ll Do:

  • Provides strategic professional advice, timely and quality information to support business lines in trading initiatives and business strategies - new products, acquisitions, legal entities amalgamations or integrations, and to ensure compliance to regulatory, statutory and tax requirements. 
  • Ensure the integrity and timely filings of monthly and annual financial information, both regulatory and statutory, and as included in Bank’s overall reporting, in compliance with continuous disclosure requirements of various regulatory bodies. 
  • Effective management and oversight of business operations and internal controls to support the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite frameworks and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 
  • Safeguard assets and the Bank’s reputation by ensuring control mechanisms are in place to identify and mitigate risk, monitoring capital and relevant limits, ensuring appropriate pricing and valuation; implementing and enhancing internal controls, staying current on new and emerging regulations and best practices. 
  • Leads and manages the Cedar Leaf Capital team to provide all aspects of infrastructure support in accounting, reporting and disclosure filings.  Accountable to the independent Boards and public unit/shareholders for regulatory, statutory and tax compliance as well as effective corporate governance and investor relations services. 
  • Creates a high-performance team environment and drives a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge through innovative system solutions and procedural changes to effectively manage all accountabilities and deliverables.
  • Implements people strategy to attract, retain, develop and motivate team members through coaching mindset and behaviour; communicating vison/values/business strategy; managing succession and development planning for the team. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other internal stakeholders such as GRM, GWO, TFRM, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Tax and ORO.
                                   

What You’ll Bring:

  • Working towards or completion of the Partner, Directors and Senior Officers (PDO) qualifying examination is an asset.
  • A professional accounting designation with minimum 10 years’ industry experience in a senior management capacity is preferred.
  • Strong technical skills and extensive knowledge of the investment business are required due to the broad range of products and complex accounting requirements. Must be able to lead and develop integrated solutions to complex issues in a competitive and changing market environment.
  • Knowledge of securities regulations, acting as the authoritative source of knowledge within the Dealer on IIROC’s regulatory requirements. Good understanding of CRA tax requirements is mandatory. 
  • Strong leadership, motivational and people skills are mandatory with continuous interactions with Executive Management and various divisional or department executives, external director boards, internal and external auditors and regulatory body representatives.
  • Requires strategic thinking, excellent analytical skills and decision making abilities, while being result oriented to deal with new and unique challenges with short turnaround deadlines. 


Working Arrangement:

  • This position is currently an on-site role, with the expectation that you will work 4-5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
  • Non-standard hours are a common occurrence
  • Limited travel both domestically and internationally may be required.
