Title:  Estate and Trust Consultant Lead

The incumbent is accountable for the oversight and delivery of the “Total Wealth” planning services offered by Scotiatrust Estate and Trust Consultants (ETCs) by leading the ETCs in accordance with client and Bank partner expectations. The role provides guidance and oversees the Central Region’s ETC team ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Practice Lead is responsible for the direct management, supervision and overall leadership of the ETCs, including oversight and training as well as new business development, pipeline management and new business acceptance. The role supports the development, communication and implementation of initiatives as required and assists with complex files and relationships upon request.

The Practice Lead is expected to deal with the full range of services, including: Estate and Trust Administration, Will and Estate Planning and Custody Services, through the effective direction of staff, utilization of corporate resources and personal intervention.

The position is also directly involved with the identification and pursuit of new business including the generation of immediate fee business and deferred revenue and would supervise the sales and business development activities of the ETCs, Trust staff, Wealth Partners and Centres of Influence.

 

Major Accountabilities:

 

  • Day to day supervision of the Region’s ETC team and oversight of all ETC hires (including any salary decisions), and onboarding. Accountable for the selection, motivation and development of ETC staff including establishing objectives, supporting learning programs and managing the annual performance review cycle, performance assessment and employee development plans.
  • Develop and execute the Region’s business plan for the generation of new immediate fee and deferred fee revenue in conjunction with the Regional Director, working through the Estate and Trust Consultants, the Market Leads, Wealth Partners, Wealth Management Consultants and the Centres of Influence (Lawyers, Accountants, etc.).                                                                          
  • Assist the Regional Director and Market Leads in preparing the Region Budget and the ongoing control of the revenue and expenses to ensure achievement of the approved net income plan.

 

  • Oversee partnering with Scotiabank & Scotia Wealth Management advisors to meet the needs of HNW clients and prospects, creating a positive experience for the client and the advisor.

 

  • Support Scotiatrust’s service model by positioning the Estate and Trust Consultants as the conduit for all business flows in and out of Scotiatrust. Accountable for the overall quality and timeliness of client service for referrals received from all bank partners and COIs and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

 

  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 

Education/Work Experience/Designations

  • 5 years industry experience
  • STI, MTI or TEP designation/ diploma
  • In-depth experience dealing with HNW clients and their advisors
  • Proven People Management, Sales Coaching and Leadership skills
  • In-depth knowledge and technical proficiency related to wealth and estate planning strategies – Estate and Trust Management, Cross Boarder and Tax planning issues
  • Thorough knowledge of the full Scotia Wealth product and service offering
  • Working knowledge of the products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group of Companies (external to Scotia Wealth) to identify and refer clients as appropriate
