The Economics Research Analyst provides timely research, data, and technical support to the Scotiabank Economics Department. The role contributes to the team’s empirical and policy‑focused work through rigorous data preparation, analysis, and visualization, including the development of charts, tables, presentation materials, and related qualitative inputs. The Analyst is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing departmental economic databases to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility. The role further involves regular engagement with the Bank’s business lines to coordinate data needs and support cross‑departmental research initiatives.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Provide data management and forecasting support.
- Manage and update departmental databases supporting forecast publications, key economic indicators, and related processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data inputs for forecast cycles, stress‑testing activities, and reporting exercises
Provide research and publication support. - Support the production of daily, weekly, and monthly publications through the preparation of datasets, charts, tables, linked files, and figures, including focused support in areas such as LATAM, trade, housing, or autos, as required.
Provide presentation and communications support. - Develop accurate and visually consistent PowerPoint presentations, social‑media assets, and other communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Enhance analytical outputs by recommending improved methods for presenting economic information and by demonstrating comfort working with large, complex, and alternative datasets alongside traditional economic data sources.
- Support Internal and external research
- Respond in a timely manner to regular and ad hoc data, survey, and research requests from Scotiabank Economists, business lines, and external clients, drawing on a broad range of data and research sources.
- Execute responsibilities in a timely, collaborative, and flexible manner to support team efficiency and overall departmental effectiveness.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics
- Working knowledge of economic and financial markets
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- High level of comfort with data management
- High level of proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- Attention to detail and accuracy are critical
- Fluency in Spanish or French an asset
