Business Unit Description

The Data Office is responsible for establishing data as a strategic asset for Scotiabank, further enhancing data governance, supporting our data and analytic capabilities across the organization to build completive advantage and to enhances our client focus as well as developing an enterprise-wide data management strategy.

Our strategy will facilitate this by:

  • Improving our data quality through focused data programs and processes
  • Use new data technology to increase agility
  • Become an analytics leaders, focusing on continuous advancement

 

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the VP, Data Transformation Program the Data Domain Lead is responsible for:

  • Standing up the Data Domains for the Chief Data Office in conjunction with the Data Stewards, the business leaders who are ultimately accountable for a domain’s activities as a secondary role
  • Executing the Data strategy that allows Scotiabank to use data as an enterprise wide asset

 

Key Accountabilities:

The Data Domain Lead is responsible for managing/supporting the following items:

  • Mobilize and lead a Domain working group
  • Accountable for the execution of the Domain Stand Up checklist
  • Collaborate with the Data Management roles for the domain stand up activities
  • Support the Data Sponsor to kick off the domain activities with a working group charter
  • Support the Data Steward to define domain and sub-domain scope and boundaries
  • Support the Metadata Enterprise Repository as defined in the framework to reflect the domains identified business terms
  • Ensure definitions are applied to all of the Critical Data Elements in the Domain
  • Ensure the Critical Data elements prioritization process principles are adhered to
  • Support the Domain Working Group in developing data quality rules and metrics
  • Support the Domain Working Group in identifying and managing data issues
  • Support the identification of continuous improvement opportunities that will have a positive impact on our team and bank
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder and executive management relationships to effectively influence strategic priorities
  • Develop risk mitigated strategies to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of the data domains
  • Work with other Business leads to provide consultation
  • Implement mechanisms to ensure data domain initiatives are aligned to both corporate strategy and the Chief Data Office mandate
  • Work closely with the VP, Data Transformation Program and other members of the DO management team
  • Support success metrics to constantly evaluate our progress

 

Leadership and Management Responsibilities

  • Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the DO’s priorities and Scotiabank’s overall goals
  • Building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities
  • Managing performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities
  • Creating a positive work environment and being an effective role model
  • Ensure compliance with policies,  standards, guidelines and controls by applying policies and controls consistently
  • Hiring the  right people to align individual capabilities with job requirements
  • Escalating blockers and issues to Cross-Domain Working Group and Data Office leadership for resolution

 

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of Scotiabank’s operations sufficient to understand and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives across a number of disciplines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data management and principles sufficient to analyze and interpret complex concepts
  • Exceptional leadership skills to review processes and procedures to create efficiencies, eliminate duplication and provide organization support to achieve business objectives
  • Strategic thinking and strong ability to create an effective Data Management Model that will create a competitive edge for the Scotiabank
  • Strong relationship management with an ability to establish productive relationships between various leaders, departments and partners across the organization
  • Ability to manage significant transformation change initiatives while maintaining a high level of employee engagement and focus
  • Well-developed communication skills including precise articulation of ideas and opinions in order to prepare detailed business cases and proposals
  • Solutions oriented and ability to develop and create innovative solutions to critical business or organizational data issues
