The Role:

 

As a Director on the Regulatory Business Sustainment team, you’ll lead and oversee a 1b-team accountable for program elements covering six OTC derivative reporting rules as well as some Volcker program elements for Global Banking and Markets and Group Treasury.  The mandate is to oversee 1b daily supervisory control and monitoring functions and provide subject matter expertise of the reporting rules and our program to the business and project teams.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • This role covers both OTC scope and some Volcker scope in the 1b space for GBM and GT
  • Responsible for overseeing execution and record keeping of a suite of daily and periodic monitoring controls relating to the OTC scope requirements
  • Oversee the coordination and leadership of 4 regional working groups to identify, escalate and resolve gaps in regulatory processes
  • Coordinate GBM/GT-related responses to outreach from Regulators regarding OTC scope or Volcker Metrics at Compliance request
  • In regards to Volcker Metrics & Measures,  accountable for the timely distribution of internal metrics dashboards and external metrics submissions
  • Create executive level reporting on OTC scope programs for a variety of Committees, taking care to reflect key risks and issues, and present to Oversight Committees on request
  • Oversee RBS engagement and deliverables for projects where RBS is key stakeholder (or project owner) and provide subject matter expertise and leadership related to existing OTC scope
  • Timely and effective engagement of GBM and GT Front Office and other functional areas to influence strategic business or infrastructure decision-making relating to impacts on existing scope or anticipated future OTC scope and Volcker Metrics processes
  • Manage delivery of RBS action items or findings arising from various senior committees, Audit, and/or Compliance Testing relating to OTC scope or Volcker Metrics reporting
  • Represent Scotiabank in industry associations and/or working groups related to regulatory and market infrastructure initiatives affecting RBS to ensure industry best practices are informing our controls
  • Ensure that the RBS team sustains subject matter expertise in the supported OTC rules and Volcker Metrics.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 7 years of Capital Markets experience
  • Strong derivative product knowledge
  • Working knowledge of derivatives reporting regulations
  • Understanding of regulatory governance and the three lines of defense model
  • Excellent judgment and business acumen, particularly around escalation and prioritization
  • Exceptional presentation and written communications skills
  • Proven track record of meeting deliverables and managing within budgets
  • Previous experience managing a team in an operations, project management or reporting environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to partner and build working relationships with colleagues across front office, compliance, operations and more
  • Proficient in basic Microsoft suite

 

Education and Other Requirements:

  • Business/Finance/Economics degree or equivalent
  • Post-graduate educational achievement preferred, e.g. MBA,CFA, CA, LLB
