Purpose


Leads and oversees Project Execution and Process Reviews for Global Finance in Canada and countries where Scotiabank operates.  Drives stakeholder engagement through process reviews and the execution of projects from a business perspective aligned to the Bank’s priorities, as Finance’s Strategic Initiatives and Target Operating Model continue to be implemented and evolve. Provides strategic direction, expertise in finance and oversight for assigned initiatives (process optimization, automation, legacy systems’ decommissioning, implementation of new systems/tools) to ensure that projects and reviews are delivered meeting financial reporting needs and as agreed with the key stakeholders. This position is also responsible for post-implementation activities until initiatives are handed off to BAU teams as well as second level operational support of key Finance systems.

 

Key Accountabilities:


Key accountabilities include, but are but not limited to:

  • Complete pre-business case investigations, feasibility studies and process improvement opportunities
  • Identify gaps (Process, People, Technology) with a critical lens on Accounting/Financial Reporting impacts and provide recommendations with a "Continuous Improvement" and “Adequate Controls” mindset 
  • Lead different size teams to drive the execution of projects and process reviews throughout Global Finance:
    • Lead all aspects of the diagnostic, design and implementation stages by working with cross functional teams
    • Lead the communication with other Finance areas, senior executives/sponsors and technology teams and/or other project groups.
    • Manage project execution/process reviews’ deliverables forward by strategic influencing, effective resource management, prioritization and problem solving.
    • Manage and resolve escalations, issues and provide direction to IT partners 
  • Collaborate with executives & work stream owners to validate business objectives are met throughout the implementation of initiatives (including transition to business as usual) 
  • Support the delivery of assigned projects following the Bank’s framework, including:
    • Preparation and maintenance of business cases and detailed project plans
    • Identification of key project risks and development of mitigation plans
    • Identification and definition of resolution for project issues
    • Communication to sponsors/stakeholders 
    • Completion of financial forecasts and status reports as well as maintenance of project documentation
  • Create and sustain highly motivated teams comprising people from different areas of the organization, usually including people not within the incumbent’s direct supervision. This includes 
    • Ensure efficient and effective communication within the team and between the team and sponsors/stakeholders;
    • Maintain the momentum and deal with changing and occasionally conflicting priorities.
  • Ensure effective post-implementation and ongoing operational support for key Finance systems/processes: 
    • Coordinate post-implementation (Hypercare) support 
    • Coordinate the resolution of operational, technical and business process issues
    • Ongoing monitoring and reporting of key operational metrics
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities as assigned.

 

Experience / Education:

  • 5-10 years of experience in project execution and process management on large, global, and complex projects with significant IT and operational components. 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Finance department (financial industry strongly preferred). 
  • Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) strongly preferred. 
  • PMP certification is an asset. 
  • University/Master’s degree in Business/Finance/Accounting and/or disciplines where process design and/or technology are a focus
  • Good experience in business transformations, process redesign, and process review / improvement
  • Proven experience in large scale technology programs and ERPs – strong asset
  • Strong practical project/process knowledge – Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid – strong asset
  • Good understanding of Finance processes 
  • Ability to influence peers and other individuals who are not direct reports and build relationships at all levels within the organization
  • Excellent collaborative skills; ability to drive results and successfully manage through adversity
