The Director of Engineering, Digital Resiliency & Intake is responsible for engineering execution, technical strategy, and delivery oversight for resiliency, stability, and platform health across the Bank’s digital platforms. This role ensures the availability, reliability, recoverability, and operational excellence of platforms that support applications, processes, and critical Client journeys for the Canadian Bank.


The Director partners closely with Business, Product, Architecture, SRE, and Operations leaders to align engineering priorities with business outcomes, risk posture, and platform sustainability. Reporting to the Head of Platform Engineering, this role plays a key part in translating enterprise resiliency and platform strategy into executable engineering plans and ensuring they are delivered with high quality, stability, and transparency.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Responsible for the successful engineering delivery and technical oversight within the Digital Resiliency & Intake domain, supporting Canadian Banking Engineering platforms in alignment with desired business, risk, and client outcomes. The focus is on ensuring platform stability, scalability, availability, and recovery readiness for critical applications.
  • Own engineering accountability for platform resiliency, including availability, performance, disaster recovery, and operational preparedness, while collaborating across domain, platform, and infrastructure teams to address systemic risks.
  • Partner with Business Leads and enablement teams including Digital Product, Client Experience, Operations, SRE, and Infrastructure to define and deliver resilient technical solutions that support best-in-class Client experiences.
  • Execute on the resiliency and platform-health roadmap, as defined by senior leadership, ensuring seamless transition from strategy to technical implementation and fostering continuous feedback loops between engineering, operations, and business teams.
  • Own the engineering intake and prioritization model for resiliency, stability, and platform health initiatives, ensuring demand is assessed and sequenced based on business value, risk reduction, and engineering capacity.
  • Lead and manage end-to-end engineering delivery of resiliency and platform initiatives, ensuring appropriate planning, execution, quality assurance, deployment, and operational support.
  • Champion a client-focused and reliability-first engineering culture, prioritizing platform health, predictable delivery, and secure, compliant operation of client-facing digital systems.
  • Drive engineering excellence and operational maturity through best practices in architecture, coding, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, test automation, incident management, and post-incident learning.
  • Ensure platform resilience and operational readiness through proactive monitoring, early risk identification, incident response leadership, and thorough root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement, and actively communicate risk expectations across engineering teams.
  • Create an environment in which teams pursue effective and efficient operations, while ensuring adherence to business controls and meeting obligations related to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework and related governance standards.

  • University degree in Computer Engineering, Applied Science, Technology, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on software or platform engineering experience
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in large-scale, complex technology environments
  • Proven experience delivering high-availability, highly resilient digital platforms at scale
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and resiliency patterns
  • Experience with incident management, disaster recovery planning, and operational KPIs
  • Ability to partner effectively with program management, product, business, and risk teams
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder influence skills
  • Ability to operate effectively within a regulated, risk-sensitive environment
