The Director or Associate Director in the Debt Capital Markets (DCM) department enjoys a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they execute a broad range of debt transactions.  A high degree of responsibility is afforded to those demonstrating initiative and the desire to take on responsibility.

 

The Director / Associate Director will focus on supporting the Senior Leaders in debt capital markets with a primary focus on investment grade clients.  The role will focus on client presentations and interactions, capital structure analysis, rating agency considerations and analysis, liability management, live transactions and new issue documentation for public and private debt offerings, monitoring and synthesizing market conditions, as well as mentoring and developing Associates and Analysts.  As your career progresses, you will have increased responsibilities on live transactions and participate in business development under the guidance of senior DCM professionals.  The Director / Associate Director will have direct contact with clients alongside senior DCM professionals, allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating relationships.

 

A significant amount of effort, diligence and initiative is required to properly execute assignments.  The complexity of clients’ financial requirements coupled with the intense competitiveness of the Debt Capital Markets business necessitates a full commitment to the task at hand.  Standards are very high as most work is presented to senior executives at client firms and supervision is provided only to the extent that it is required.

 

With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small project team approach, the Director / Associate Director has ample opportunity for career growth and development.  On any given project, you will interact with other departments of the firm such as Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Equity Capital Markets, other areas in Global Fixed Income (Derivatives, Syndication, Sales and Trading) gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and the capital markets.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients, including understanding the fundamental credit profile, capital structure analysis
  • Creating marketing materials and presentations
  • Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
  • Identifying and developing business opportunities with clients

 

Major Activities Include:

  • Perform financial statement analysis to further understand the business profile and capital structure needs of any given client
  • Collect, consolidate and interpret company and industry data
  • Financial and written analysis of companies and industries
  • Understanding of various rating agencies frameworks, and ability to provide guidance relating to ratings 
  • Preparing client presentations, including compiling relevant data, comparable company analysis and assembling presentation materials
  • Supporting drafting of prospectuses, offering memorandum, constructing and understanding covenant packages, credit agreements, and related documentation and marketing materials for transactions
  • Applying product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives

 

 Requirements:

  • MBA, CFA, or CA designation / degree is preferred
  • 5 - 7 years of related work experience either in Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Banking, or Investment Banking
  • A clearly defined interest in Debt Capital Markets
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory
  • Experience in documentation including credit agreements, and acquisition finance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
  • The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines
  • The ability to perform effectively in a team environment
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
  • A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn new concepts
  • Independent thinker and proven ability to make decisions
  • Related experience is an asset, but not required
