Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Business Solutions & Transformation in Chief Accountants function - ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The Director, Head of Business Solutions & Transformation – Accounting, will lead strategic initiatives to modernize and optimize the global accounting function. The Director will be responsible for driving innovation, implementing scalable solutions, and enhancing operational efficiency across the bank’s financial reporting and accounting processes.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

  • Provide strategic guidance to senior stakeholders and represent the accounting transformation agenda in executive forums aligned with the Global Finance transformation strategy.
  • Develop and execute a transformation roadmap for the accounting function, aligned with regulatory requirements, business objectives and broader Finance initiatives
  • Lead the design and deployment from a business user perspective of digital solutions, automation tools, and process improvements to enhance accuracy, timeliness, and transparency in financial reporting.
  • Monitor global regulatory developments and ensure accounting practices remain compliant and future ready.

 

Accounting Transformation Leadership 

  • Lead transformation programs in accounting, deliver enterprise outcomes — enabling a faster close to reporting cycle, including GL/subledger modernization, cloud-based reporting, regulatory data enhancements, and automation use cases.
  • Partners with cross-functional and Global Finance transformation teams to drive alignment, foster collaboration, and embed lasting change across the enterprise.
  • Ensure enterprise initiatives impacting upstream/downstream accounting and reporting processes are compliant with established policies, maintaining integrity of financial accounting and reporting and executed with appropriate change management activities. 

 

Accounting Strategy Execution

  • Translate strategic accounting goals into executable initiatives.
  • Champion agile delivery models, build high-performance delivery teams, and ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-scope execution for the Chief accountant’s area.

Technology & Automation Delivery

  • Support the development and continued evolution of the accounting technology strategy, in close partnership with Technology, Global Finance, Technology, Risk, GBS, and vendors to deliver next-gen finance processes and systems. 

 

Finance Enablement & Insight Delivery

  • Collaborate with Finance leaders across Business Lines to enable Chief Accountant’s mandate of delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting that supports strategic decision-making, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives operational efficiency across the enterprise.

 

Change Management 

  • Own and lead the change agenda for the Chief Accountants function— from stakeholder mapping and communication planning to training and user adoption strategies that ensure seamless transformation delivery.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have: 
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent designation required. MBA or advanced degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, finance transformation, or business solutions within a global financial institution.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale transformation initiatives in complex, regulated environments.
  • Experience with global finance operations, shared services, and outsourcing models.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Basel III, SOX, and BCBS 239.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic alignment.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a focus on results and value creation.
  • Strong knowledge of banking products, financial instruments, and global accounting standard
