The Director & Head, Financial Planning & Analysis (Role) supports the strategic direction, leadership and oversight for finance matters for Global Wealth Management (GWM) finance business partners, ensuring business strategies, business plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The role is responsible for defining, managing, directing, delivering, planning and forecasting the overall financial processes, controls and reporting of data for Global Wealth Management.

As a key partner to the GWM Finance management team, key areas of focus includes;

  • Reporting of Results
  • Planning & Forecasting
  • Expense oversight and transparency
  • Analyzing & modelling the Global Wealth’s results
  • Deep-dive analysis on strategic priorities
  • P&L, Capital, RWA, Liquidity, and Funding optimization
  • Executive ad hoc support

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

1) Reporting,  Planning and Analysis

  • Lead the following accountabilities as a central function for Global Wealth Management Finance (GWMF):
    • Monthly / Quarterly forecast and Annual profit plan processes, including P&L summaries and analysis via executive presentations (eg. Plan Binder)
    • Monthly and Quarterly Management Reporting, presented to the CEO and Group Head of Global Wealth Management, including the Quarterly “Bluebook”, associated supplementary packages and Investor Relations materials
    • Monthly forecasting process for Balance Sheet and P&L at the Product and Business Line level, including managing the data upload process into Hyperion and HLF
    • Financial reporting suite including monthly “ALCO” reports for Treasury, “NIE” reports for GWM business lines, and “GWM Tracker” to summarize key financials and ratios for management team
    • Compliance processes, including monthly reasonability, GL attestations, intercompany reconciliations, End User Computing (EUC) attestations, Goodwill Impairment testing and SOX attestations
  • Directs financial reviews to improve management processes and standardize methodologies. Implement and maintain constantly evolving performance measurement practices, and reporting by:
    • Working with the Business Line to analyse annual plans and quarterly/multi-year forecast processes, including all balance sheet, P&L items and key metrics
    • Lead the production of various monthly and quarterly performance dashboards and scorecards including value-added performance commentary and variance analysis.
    • Support the development of portfolio stress-testing scenarios
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams. 
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management
  • Support ad hoc analysis requests as required

 

2) Leadership and Collaborate Across the Bank

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships within Global Wealth Management Finance and Wealth Management business units as well as divisional support functions as required
  • Sustain strategic relationships and develop alliances with key contacts across Executive Offices (EO) groups and other stakeholders (business lines, executive management) to deliver on mandate and provide value-added analysis and insights.
  • Build and reinforce effective working relationships and collaboration within the Finance partners across the Bank. 
  • Be apprised of market and industry trends, maintaining a strong knowledge base of external best practices relating to expense management/allocation procedures, reporting, forecasting and analysis to position the department as a strategic contributor helping advance the division’s financial position

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • MBA and/or Accounting Designation (CPA / CMA designation) essential
  • Minimum of 15 years directly related experience in a financial area
  • Strong executive presence and reporting skills,
  • Ability to translate large sets of data into a summarized view for executive consumption a must-have
  • Must have a “big picture” mindset, with the ability to articulate end-to-end impacts to leadership and business line peers
  • Experience in working with Hyperion, OBI or similar financial applications preferred, including building ad-hoc queries and reconciliations back to control totals
  • Thorough knowledge of Global Wealth Management’s products/services, business lines, financial reports, compliance, performance measurement, planning and analysis, service standards, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of management/accounting methods and practices including product profitability, ROEE measurement techniques.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills required to develop the vision, goals, strategies, and plans for the Finance Department aligning with the overall Bank strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of finance and the ability to continuously and critically analyze the current state for new concepts, insights and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong initiative, forward thinking and creative problem solving skills with the ability to create or stimulate integrated cross disciplinary strategic solutions.
  • Skilled in gaining the organizational commitment and alignment of various stakeholders in GWM through the use of strong interpersonal skills and win-win outcomes.
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills that can be applied across all functional levels and areas within the organization
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and relationship management expertise
