The Director & Head, Project Management Office is a senior leader in the GRM Transformation Office with accountability for GRM’s delivery governance and day-to-day portfolio execution, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The Director & Head leads a team of 6 Directors and their teams, providing oversight of project portfolio health, risk, outcomes, and value realization, driving timely decisions and trade-offs as priorities and constraints shift. They ensure compliance with delivery standards and governance requirements (including enterprise delivery and transformation frameworks, Gates 1–6), and provides executive-ready reporting and escalation to support senior executives, the Board, regulators, and internal audit as required.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Accountable for delivery governance and portfolio execution across GRM, maintaining delivery cadence and driving timely decisions and trade-offs.
- Own and enforce delivery governance, methodology, and standards, including enterprise delivery and transformation frameworks (Gates 1–6); intervene early when delivery, control, or governance issues arise.
- Resolve cross-functional dependencies and interdependencies by aligning stakeholders across business and technology; allocate capacity, sequence work, and remove impediments to protect critical milestones.
- Provide senior financial stewardship by defining financial KPIs, challenging forecasts, and overseeing corrective actions on cost, benefits, and value realization with Finance and initiative sponsors/owners.
- Oversee portfolio health through disciplined status reporting, issue/risk management, and outcome tracking; escalate issues and decisions required to maintain delivery momentum.
- Engage and influence SVPs/VPs to establish alignment and negotiate commitments on priorities, capacity, and sequencing.
- Own portfolio risk and escalation, ensuring compliance with Enterprise Delivery Office policies; proactively escalate and resolve material risks before they impact delivery or create control issues.
- Direct multiple regulatory, transformation, SIP and BAU initiatives within the PMO, involving multiple enterprise-wide stakeholders and matrix governance; provide program and project management subject matter expertise and support portfolio intake and prioritization.
- Bridge business and technology delivery by aligning program objectives, capability-to-system mapping, and operating model changes to ensure delivery remains anchored to strategic outcomes.
- Ensure the team manages all aspects of the initiative lifecycle, including charters, integrated plans, resource plans, milestones, measures of success, and transition into sustainment; manage scope rigorously to deliver within agreed time, cost, and quality parameters.
- Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout the PMO team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree considered an asset
- PMP/PMI certification preferred
- 10+ years experience in financial industry with a particular emphasis in project management and/or industry experience supporting large scale and highly complex transformational projects
- Demonstrable success in leading large-scale high-risk programs involving geographically and functionally diverse stakeholders, with an enterprise mindset.
- Strong experience in project/portfolio resource planning, reporting, prioritization, and financial forecasting and budgeting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to interpret results for stakeholders and derive insights
- Proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to succinctly convey information to senior GRM audiences. Expected to facilitate/lead meetings.
- Intellectually curious, with strong business judgment and strategic influencing/negotiating skills
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative networks of strategic contacts with the specific intent of fostering teamwork and future opportunities and partnerships
