The Enterprise Governance, Risk, and Compliance (eGRC) program is a strategic initiative focused on transforming how Scotiabank manages risk. As a holistic solution, it modernizes governance, risk, and compliance by integrating frameworks, processes, and regulatory requirements into a single, consistent platform. The eGRC enhances transparency, automates key activities, and supports data-driven decision making across all business functions, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory standards. The program ultimately aims to enhance organizational resilience and informed decision-making.

 

The eGRC Issues Management team plays a central role in refining issue management policies and procedures to ensure alignment across the eGRC Program.

 

The Director, eGRC Issues Management oversees the Bank’s Issues Management Program, ensuring it aligns with regulatory and operational standards. They lead the eGRC Issues Management team in Global Risk Management in Canada, Colombia and globally, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Reporting to the Vice President, this role focuses on efficient remediation and supporting the Bank’s risk management goals.

 

Is this role right for you?  In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Lead the enterprise Issues Management Program – develop, refine, and enforce the framework, standards, and escalation protocols to ensure policies, risk management lifecycle stages, and critical data elements remain current, consistently applied, and fully integrated within the eGRC Program and Platform.
  • Oversee end-to-end issue management lifecycle execution, identification, triage, acceptance, remediation, validation, and closure, ensuring timely root cause analysis, strong effective challenge, and alignment to regulatory and enterprise standards.
  • Lead enterprise-wide issue oversight, reporting, and governance by developing transparent dashboards, ensuring accurate linkage to risks and controls, and overseeing program health, including change control, documentation, audit readiness, data quality, KPIs, and timely escalation of material or emerging issues.
  • Oversee the Issues Management capability within the eGRC platform, optimizing workflows, data structures, integrations, and user experience to support standardized governance.
  • Collaborate across cross functional review forums to reinforce accountability among business leaders and control partners, while serving as the primary liaison with regulators and auditors by demonstrating strong practices and providing thorough documentation of actions taken.
  • Promote ongoing enhancement and streamlining of risk processes by seeking out improvements, standardizing procedures, strengthening reporting, and aligning the Issues Management Program with the Bank’s long-term eGRC strategy.
  • Build and lead a high performing team that scales globally.
  • Support ad hoc program needs by delivering high-quality analyses, materials, and change related deliverables in response to evolving priorities and stakeholder requirements.
  • Provide strategic oversight and collaborate closely with all eGRC teams to ensure the program’s quality, effectiveness, and continuous improvement, with smooth processes, reliable data, strong user experiences, and the guardrails needed for a resilient, fully operational eGRC program.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA or master’s degree preferred.
  • 8–10 years of experience in a consulting firm, finance or banking industry. Risk management experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Issues Management
  • Strong understanding regional and global risk, controls, and compliance expectations.
  • Experience delivering large scale, complex programs involving multiple stakeholder groups and cross functional teams.
  • Strong project and program management skills with the ability to operate in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional analytical and planning capabilities, with the ability to interpret data, synthesize insights, and focus on critical issues.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills, able to work effectively across business lines, technology teams, and control functions.
  • Superior communication skills, including executive level written and verbal communication.
  • Experience with enterprise change management in large transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in eGRC program delivery, platform oversight, stakeholder engagement, and transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environments, data governance, and technical platforms supporting GRC functions.
  • Familiarity with delivery and governance platforms, such as Jira, Clarity, OpenPages, and ServiceNow.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Spanish to support engagement with global and regional stakeholders.
