Director, Wealth Strategy and Services (the “Director”), International Wealth Management (IWM), leads and oversees the strategic direction and profitable growth for trust business and is responsible for designing an optimal suite of wealth services and solutions across the IWM footprint. The Director will drive the overall strategy, execution plans and specific initiatives related to the value offering, support, client experience, and partner engagement. The span of coverage incorporates trust, insurance and other wealth-related services. The responsibilities include ensuring all activities conducted comply with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.



•    Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


Business growth

•    Drive profitable growth of the international trust business, both onshore and offshore. 
•    Maintain close working relationships with IWM countries to understand their client needs and identify business opportunities.
•    Support the setting of the growth strategies based on client segments, market/economic conditions, corporate objectives and competitive positioning. Work closely with key internal partners and teams to develop strategic sales plans and tactical ideas.
•    Contribute to establishing and managing ambitious business growth targets (through annual planning cycle), client retention and satisfaction goals. Drive the achievement of these targets through business plans, ongoing assessment and support, including best practices. 
•    Identify areas of opportunities leveraging the Bank’s existing resources to reduce costs and increase efficiency.  Engage and support cross-selling synergies among distribution units.


Strategy and adoption

•    Support the development and implementation of the IWM wealth strategy and the international advisory model. 
•    Work collaboratively with key partners to ensure a cohesive onshore/offshore integration and partnerships. Lead the implementation of related projects and reviews. 
•    Engage with business unit partners to support enterprise objectives, influence key stakeholders, and jointly develop effective and realistic sales and growth strategies. 
•    Identify strategic issues and opportunities to improve existing businesses.
•    Actively promote the integrated advisory model of IWM.
•    Profitably expand the scope of wealth services offering.


Product development, support, and optimization of the wealth offering

•    Articulate and support the wealth offering value proposition (across various segments).
•    Design IWM solutions, products, and services in partnership with Global Wealth Management teams and external vendors. Work closely with internal partners on new product/service development and optimize IWM capabilities.
•    Provide governance and oversight to ensure consistent delivery of value proposition across markets. 
•    Continuously evaluate product shelf and service needs, regulatory requirements and standards, distribution practices, and performance management matters and provide recommendations.
•    Support the preparation of business cases. Evaluate, make recommendations, obtain approvals, and follow up until completed. 
•    Develop and implement a framework for internal and client-focused communications to support the growth of wealth services.


Risk and regulatory oversight

•    Responsible for ensuring all regulatory/compliance requirements are met within required timeframes.
•    Embed all elements of the risk appetite statement and measures into day-to-day activities.

•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education and experience

• University degree in business, MBA/CFA preferred, with a minimum of 10 years professional experience in the financial services industry with a focus on wealth management and investments.
• Fluency in Spanish is considered an asset.
• Solid knowledge of sales management techniques & processes, financial analysis, and regulatory and compliance frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills, to analyze issues and problems and develop a range of alternatives and recommendations.
• Excellent leadership, project management and change management skills.
• Excellent presentation skills and ability to interact comfortably with executive management and distribution teams in multiple jurisdictions.
• Exceptional communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels in the organization.
• Self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic, fast paced and demanding environment.
• Ability to work with a high degree of independence and originate programs and ideas.
• Sales experience/background.
• Self-driven, results-oriented and an ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent relationship building and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong supportive relationships and synergies with stakeholders across the organization.
