The Director, Value Realization Office (VRO) within the Business & Journey Enablement team is a pivotal leadership role in Global Wealth Management & Insurance (GWM&I) serving as a dedicated partner to Scotia Global Asset Management (SGAM). The Director is accountable for guiding the business line's investment portfolio from fiscal planning and prioritization through delivery and value realization. As a trusted strategic advisor and execution leader, the Director partners across Business, Technology, Finance, Risk, and Procurement to shape investment decisions, strengthen readiness, actively manage risks and dependencies, and translate strategy into measurable business outcomes. This role oversees Senior Managers responsible for journey-level portfolio management and strategic advisory, while providing clear delivery oversight and executive escalation support across SGAM's highest-priority investments.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Lead and drive a client-driven culture throughout your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Serve as the dedicated Business & Journey Enablement partner for SGAM, with end-to-end accountability for the business line investment portfolio from planning through value realization.
  • Lead annual fiscal planning and portfolio prioritization, establishing a clear, integrated view of investment demand, strategic alignment, affordability, sequencing, and trade-offs.
  • Guide business case development, funding requests, and investment planning in alignment with Finance guidelines, ensuring decisions are supported by clear outcomes, costs, benefits, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Lead readiness planning and tracking across resources, vendors, contracts, requirements, funding, and other mobilization needs to support timely investment execution.
  • Partner across Business, Technology, Finance, Risk, Procurement, and other enabling functions to align accountabilities, resolve cross-functional constraints, and advance business-line priorities.
  • Actively manage portfolio-level investment risks, issues, interdependencies, and decisions, escalating matters requiring executive direction and driving timely resolution.
  • Provide delivery oversight across SGAM's strategic and operational initiatives, monitoring progress, financial performance, readiness, outcomes, and value realization against approved plans.
  • Develop and present integrated portfolio insights, KPIs, and executive reporting that enable transparent governance, informed decision-making, and timely intervention through Steering Committees, Operating Committees, and other senior forums.
  • Establish effective two-way communication with business leaders, journey leads, delivery teams, senior management, and other stakeholders to maintain alignment, negotiate priorities, and sustain delivery momentum.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives and act as a strategic advisor on portfolio choices, investment sequencing, delivery confidence, and value realization.
  • Oversee, coach, and develop Senior Managers accountable for journey-level portfolio management and strategic advisory, ensuring consistent standards, strong business partnership, and end-to-end accountability across the portfolio.
  • Lead complex, time-sensitive initiatives spanning business and technology, including vendor selection and management activities such as RFPs, TPRM, contracting, onboarding, workshops, and offboarding.
  • Manage personal development to ensure knowledge and skills related to portfolio, program, and project management and process improvement are continually refined and enhanced by researching best practices from best-in-class project, program, portfolio, and value realization management sources, taking courses designed around people, process, and technology from leading institutes & building relationships with key internal and external partners across all levels.
  • Coach, mentor and actively develop managers, senior managers and contractor resources on the team, building talent, skills, and capabilities in alignment with a high-performance environment.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary degree with minimum 10+ years related experience including extensive experience in project management and productivity improvement
  • In-depth knowledge of Wealth Management businesses, operational processes, client journeys is an asset.
  • Expertise in Portfolio/Program/Project Management methodologies, tools, and templates
  • Certified in PMP is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and critical thinking.
  • A comfort managing multiple concurrent, high-priority initiatives. 
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to engage and influence stakeholders collaboratively at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, including expert presentation capabilities.
  • Results-oriented individual able to lead change, with strong interpersonal, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
