About the Director, UX Design

This role sets a vision for how great user experience design can augment our e-commerce and onboarding experiences. As the Director, UX Design, this role partners primarily with Directors in Digital Marketing and Engineering. You are directly responsible for guiding a team of talented user experience and graphic designers, and will help drive the re-imagination and execution of discovery, shopping, learning and purchasing experiences. You will work directly with the Digital Marketing team to support the conceptualization, design and development of digital sales and marketing campaigns (web, email and mobile) and experiences. If you are a senior design professional who is self-driven, understands design concepts, is an expert in UX, information architecture, and designing for ecommerce and merchandising experiences.... then we want to hear from you! 


What You Will Do:

You will be executing digital experience design and strategy in Canada, where you will:

  • Drive strategy, vision and design of Scotiabank’s ecommerce experience in Canada with the goal of delivering world-class discovery, learning, purchasing and onboarding experiences.
  • Lead the ideation and delivery of new design concepts and journeys for the unauthenticated web channel and onboarding applications to achieve business vision and objectives
  • Lead design and wireframe reviews and prototyping process; ensure the design solutions proposed are meeting key KPIs, such as increased engagement, loyalty, conversion
  • Design using industry best practices within the standards and parameters of the brand to ensure deliverables represent project goals and brand positioning
  • Manage, grow and mentor a team of UX and graphic designers: delegating, providing feedback and guidance, and ensuring high quality on-time delivery
  • Ensure the work of internal team members adhere to brand and design guidelines and support achievement of customer experience and sales and marketing objectives
  • Incorporate best practices and competitive ecommerce design experiences, usability testing and other user research programs to inform user-centric design
  • Oversee UX, information architecture and visual design for ecommerce website (mobile/desktop) and onboarding applications
  • Work in partnership with Digital Design Directors to conceptualize usable, consistent and intuitive user experiences across multiple platforms and devices, taking into consideration market context, industry and competitive trends, customer feedback, site metrics, usability findings and technology constraints


What You Will Have: 

  • 10+ years design experience in user experience design.
  • 8+ years building and developing high-performance UX design teams in fast-paced evolving organizations; demonstrated ability to attract outstanding talent, and inspire/coach them to be their best.
  • MBA and/or Bachelor Degree in Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction/Design or related field;
  • Expertise in Lean/agile UX principles; demonstrated success fostering experimentation and calculated risks to drive product innovation.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to act both strategically and tactically; providing long-range thought leadership on the future of digital banking,
  • A natural storyteller with the ability to craft and communicate compelling stories that add clarity and inspire passion in our mission.
  • A collaborative leader who leverages diversity across disciplines/locations/levels to fuel creativity and innovation in product design.
  • Deep understanding of how design, prototyping, and user research meet complex and varied requirements within tight development windows.
  • Deep understanding of human-centered approach and methods to design.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get it done.
  • A passion for changing the way people bank and a willingness to live in the future and build what’s missing.
