Purpose


Leads and oversees Strategy & Transformation of Investment Advisory & Solutions (IAS) for Global Wealth Management (GWM) ensuring all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The position of Chief Investment Officer, GWM, will report to the EVP and Head, Canadian Wealth Management (CWM), and SVP, International Wealth Management (IWM) and be responsible for wealth solutions architecture, investment strategy, thought leadership, trading oversight and risk management.  The Director will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer, GWM and work closely with senior management to develop to deliver strategic recommendations, analysis and execution of initiatives supporting GWM’s investment solutions architecture, communications, and business development. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Lead strategy development and oversee execution of strategic initiatives supporting GWM’s Global Portfolio Advisory, Investment Solutions, Centralized Investment Management (CIM), Product Services and Trading Services Groups. 
  • Lead, deepen and support IAS partnership initiatives with Global Banking and Markets (GBM), Global Asset Management (GAM) and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the alignment of IAS functions within all GWM distribution channels with comprehensive project plans, coordinated with business lines where applicable, to ensure deliverables and timelines are met by all work streams.
  • Help establish, oversee, and monitor pan-wealth solutions architecture guidelines, including design, business development, and best practices, to help foster alignment with local regulations and the risk-appetite of GWM.
  • Support senior leaders within IAS on employee engagement initiatives, ScotiaPulse action planning, diversity & inclusion and key performance indicators and targets for their strategy
  • Complete environment and industry research to identify investment-related wealth management trends and their impact / implications on distribution channels and strategic plans
  • Lead the development and delivery of communication and change management strategy, including partnership with key stakeholders and execution of plans
  • Manage the organization of strategy offsites/conferences for IAS members and senior management to facilitate ongoing strategy discussions, as well as various initiatives that span GWM
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including senior leaders within the Bank to support the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills to enable you to be successful in this role? We would love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Business Administration
  • 5+ years working in a distribution channel or support function for a major financial institution
  • Significant experience developing and delivering business line and/or executive communications
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic business environment
  • Capable to engage and work directly with senior leaders across the Bank (from SVP to Group Heads) – need to be able to win their trust and build strong professional relationships
  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities on a multi-cultural environment
  • Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams
  • Exceptional planning and analytical skills, ability to discern research information / data and focus on the critical business issues
  • Highly developed relationship management skills to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, its partners and external vendors
  • Exceptional presentation and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
