The Canadian Banking Operations (CBO) Strategy group is a high-performing central team focused on driving the design, execution, and ongoing management of the Canadian Banking (CB) team’s strategic agenda. This includes supporting senior leadership in the development, communication, planning, and execution of enterprise-wide and business-line specific priorities.

Reporting to the VP, Strategy & Planning, the Director will work closely with senior management, business line leads, and a diverse set of stakeholders to lead execution of strategic projects, generate insights to deliver strategic recommendations, and support execution monitoring.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Own and maintain CBO’s 3-year strategic roadmap for enterprise-wide strategic priorities.
  • Lead a broad range of strategy execution engagements, including strategic programs and initiatives at the All-Bank level. This involves managing large cross-functional teams across business lines, designing and developing roadmaps, identifying issues, conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess impact on financials, and preparing/presenting compelling strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Guide alignment of initiatives and business lines to ensure strategies fit within the roadmap, promoting clarity, focus, and cohesion.
  • Track and update strategic milestones regularly to reflect evolving business needs, global trends, and execution realities.
  • Provide strategic support to the CBO Head and COO by shaping priorities, enabling decision-making, and aligning execution plans to strategy.
  • Ensure team coordination and effectiveness by driving the operating rhythm, aligning workstreams, and maintaining discipline in planning processes.
  • Bridge silos and enable alignment across business lines and corporate functions.
  • Synthesize findings and present clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful project outcomes to senior leaders within the Bank.
  • Act as a trusted partner to Senior Executives, helping them define priorities and ensuring they are set up to achieve them.
  • Review portfolio of strategic priorities to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact/implications of those trends on various business line strategic plans.
  • Support the CBO Head and COO agenda, including all-bank strategy, business line value creation projects, strategic planning, Board-level communications, and being a trusted advisor to senior leaders.
  • In close partnership with Communications, identify strategic communication opportunities. Support coordination and planning of events, internally and externally, and work with Communications to ensure consistent messaging across all groups of stakeholders.
  • Contribute to building the strategy team, including recruiting, coaching, knowledge development, driving integration with the rest of the Bank, and championing a customer-focused culture.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates top talent by fostering an inclusive work environment.
