Leads and oversees strategy development and execution in support of the Group Head & Chief Information Officer for Global Technology. Responsible for providing leadership direction to drive strategic change and identify appropriate plans and initiatives to support the execution of business strategy. This role is a thought partner and strategic advisor to the Group Head & CIO to maximize their impact in running technology as a business and will act as a critical liaison across cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of key projects.  Ensures business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Act as a trusted partner to the Group Head & CIO:

    • Supports the Group Head & CIO with key insights to assist in effective decision making

    • Develops integrated and holistic plans to ensure the Group Head & CIO is well-positioned to make informed decisions

    • Builds an understanding of the critical work that is happening across Technology, surfacing issues, bright spots, and challenges

    • Proactively identifies issues that could impact the successful execution of the Group Head & CIO’s commitments. This responsibility involves elevating those issues that the Group Head & CIO should be aware of and framing / positioning ideas to resolve the problem and / or mitigate the risk

    • Builds and maintains internal relationships to influence collaboration and efficiency

    • Develops and maintains strong internal and external partner relationships to positively influence idea sharing and collaborative development of ideas

    • Supports the development of key presentations to various committees, like the OpCo, Human Capital Committee, Technology Committee of the Board, etc., as well as critical presentations to regulators, such as OSFI and the FRB. This responsibility involves ensuring the preparedness of the Group Head & CIO for these key interactions.

  • Support the execution of strategy and strategic priorities:

    • Collaborates with the Global Technology Senior Management Team and key stakeholders in the development and execution of the strategy, long term vision and plan

    • Partners with OCIO Business Managers to analyze and report regularly on current initiatives

    • Makes recommendations on improvement of existing strategies, procedures and policies

    • Lead research on key areas of opportunity for Technology in line with Scotiabank’s strategic priorities and risk appetite

    • Creates ongoing awareness and engagement through presentations to a variety of senior stakeholders

    • Maintains a thorough understanding of competitive best practices and emerging trends around strategies and tactics and ensuring strategic initiatives continue to be competitive and support the team’s vision

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • 7+ years of related experience in a strategy, communications and/or chief of staff role.

  • University degree in a related discipline.

  • Expert time management, project management, planning and organization skills to oversee and execute on multiple complex initiatives without compromising quality.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work autonomously or collaboratively.

  • Ability to forge and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders including cross-functional partner groups across the Bank.

  • Excellent influencing skills to build constructive supported solutions, often in the absence of direct decision-making authority.

  • Strong creative thinking and ability to think “outside the box”

  • Experience in the development and execution of executive and internal communication plans and programs.

  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, MS Access; familiarity with design software (Adobe CS) an asset
