Title:  Director, Strategic Initiatives - CCAU

The Director, Strategic Initiatives, CCAU (Caribbean / Central America and Uruguay), is responsible for driving, formulating, and conceptualizing strategic initiatives at Regional level with both the business and operational units/hubs with key focus on end-to-end implications associated with each project. 


The Director should possess strong financial analysis skills, sound understanding of operational, legal and regulatory processes, and  drives/ leads at the Region-wide level and assists with the strategic planning process. The incumbent has exposure to senior leadership across the Bank, and must have a high degree of experience in leading complex projects with multi-dimensional groups, drawn from multiple parts of the organization.


Reporting to VP, Chief Operating Officer CCAU, and  supports the VP to maximize the impact and opportunity for driving strategic transformation of the Region.    There are four critical areas where this is achieved: effective time management, forward planning, strategic support and relationship management.




  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


  • Provide strong strategic leadership to motivate individual and team performances by:
    • Exhibiting strong leadership competencies
    • Embedding effective techniques to create a performance driven culture
    • Sharing and integrating knowledge, experience and responsibility when dealing with employees
    • Developing strategic relationships within and outside the organization in order to manage change effectively and to maintain expertise and knowledge of industry
    • Developing strategic partnerships with business leaders IT and Human Resources to promote a consistent employee experience that balances the needs of the employee and the Bank
    • Employs strong financial, market and industry insights to inform data drive decision making for CCAU strategic initiatives. 


  • Strategic Planning
    • Applies strong financial and statistical techniques to identify key economic business drivers and to derive business cases around scenarios, risks, and options
    • Participate in integrated cross-functional teams to provide insights of business opportunities through strategy-focused intelligence and analysis for planning and execution of strategic initiatives
    • Support in formulating, development and communication of strategic planning
    • Identify enablers and key issues prior to and during implementation, raise issues with key stakeholders and offer solutions
    • Ensure strategic initiatives meet the necessary rigor, strategic alignment, and return objectives; fully reflect the costs and benefits associated with the initiative
    • Drive the execution and ongoing management of strategy planning at the enterprise level
    • Lead competitive/business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact/implications of those trends on the Bank's strategic plan


  • Project Execution
    • Responsible for tracking of key financial and behavioral metrics for the CCAU strategic initiatives to ensure they are aligned to the strategic agenda and are translating into business growth and operational effectiveness.
    • Lead, participate and contribute to the successful implementation of strategic initiatives and plans, in partnership with Business Lines and Corporate Functions
    • Prepare project plan, ensure completion of action items, and keep key stakeholders informed of the process and progress
    • Partner with internal and/or external vendors/contracts as required to facilitate the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives
    • Ensure delivery of initiatives are in scope, time and budget
    • Responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously and resolving conflicting priorities and objectives


  • Relationship Management
    • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to facilitate strategy development, execution and the achievement of deliverables by 
    • Building a diverse network and generating opportunities to collaborate with key stakeholders across departments and outside the Bank 
    • Managing the relationship between Enterprise Strategy and the strategy functions within the Business Lines & Corporate Functions
    • Acting as point of contact and as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned programs and projects


  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.


  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in the disciplines of Business Management, Finance or Communications.
  • Extensive (7+) years financial services industry experience
  • Prior strategy consulting experience would be an asset
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic business environment
  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influential capabilities
  • Highly developed relationship management skills to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, partners and external vendors
  • Self-motivated; able to work in a team and independently in ambiguous situations
  • Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
  • Organizational and administrative agility; developed and superior negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work calmly and intentionally under pressure.
  • A commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong writing and verbal skills. The ability to communicate information clearly is fundamental to this role as you will be asked to draft documents, edit others, and communicate with a variety of internal and outside stakeholders.
