Director, Retirement and Wellness Strategy – Client Solutions

 

Purpose

Leads and oversees the retirement and wellness strategy & transformation within Canadian Wealth Management (CWM) ensuring all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

The Director works closely with senior management, business line leaders and a diverse set of stakeholders to develop and execute a strategy to better serve aging and retired clients and deepen retirement and wellness solutions into our holistic wealth offering and retirement planning platform. The Director is expected to deliver strategic advice that solve business problems through research, analysis, compelling strategic recommendations and monitor execution.

 

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Lead development, research and execution of major strategic initiatives focused on retirement and holistic wealth services, which include planning, insurance and investment solutions.
  • Act as a dedicated resource and point of contact for the execution and delivery of key projects and initiatives with an emphasis on decumulation and retirement.
  • Organize, facilitate and lead discussions with multiple workstreams as it relates to projects and strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate with partners across the organization, synthesize and present recommendations to key stakeholders, senior leadership and regulators.
  • Leverage a broad range of resources internally and externally to address questions, challenges, and obstacles that will improve our clients’ holistic wealth outcomes and post-retirement journey
  • Manage comprehensive project plans to ensure deliverables and timelines are met by all project-related work streams
  • Complete environment and client research to determine emerging issues and trends with retirement and financial planning and analyze the impact / implications of those trends on the various business line strategic plans
  • Observe, analyze, and track changes that may affect the investor lifecycle, including shifts in demographics, evolving investment, market and industry trends, as well as changes in the regulatory environment
  • Lead the development and delivery of communication and change management strategy, including partnership with key stakeholders and execution of plans
  • Partner with Marketing as it relates to the development, evolution and execution of retirement and wellness solutions
  • Track planning and implementation progress to keep key stakeholders and senior management informed
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Dimensions

 

The Client Solutions team, which encompasses insurance, trust, and planning, helps support Scotia Wealth Management advisors and relationship managers deliver holistic advice to clients.

The incumbent will lead the strategic development and execution of our Retirement and Wellness solutions. They will work closely with external and internal stakeholders within Client Solutions, Global Asset Management, and Scotia Wealth Management.

 

Education / Experience / Other Information

 

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Business Administration
  • 10+ years working in consulting, strategic development or a distribution channel for a major financial institution
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic business environment
  • Capable to engage and work directly with senior leaders across the Bank (from SVP to Group Heads) – need to be able to win their trust and build strong professional relationships
  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities on a multi-cultural environment
  • Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams
  • Exceptional planning and analytical skills, ability to discern research information / data and focus on the critical business issues
  • Highly developed relationship management skills to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, its partners and external vendors
  • Exceptional presentation and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
