The Director Internal Control & Monitoring, working with the Vice President, plays a pivotal role for Global Finance (GF) tasked with ensuring the robustness and compliance of the internal control framework for GF. This position involves leading and managing internal control over compliance with applicable regulations, driving continuous improvements and collaborating with GF risk owners and other departments to safeguard the integrity of financial reporting and operational risk. The Director regularly interacts with a diverse set of senior stakeholders and champions influencing teams’ strategic and change initiatives.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Oversee the internal control team, providing guidance, support, and ensure effective execution of compliance activities. This will include advising on the design and implementation of internal controls and providing guidance on best practices of control design and implementation of control frameworks to address emerging risk and regulatory changes impacting GF.
- Remain deeply involved and spearhead continuous monitoring of risks, controls and looking for opportunities for process improvement in GF processes and recommending control enhancements to mitigate risks, streamline operations, and reduce inefficiencies. Advice on the integration of technology solutions to automate and strengthen internal control processes leveraging data analytics and other tools.
- Conduct regular monitoring to identify/ detect potential areas of risk expansion and connect the dots on root causes and mitigation strategies. Communicate effectively policies and provide training to GF risk owners. Execute on the transit/G/L attestation initiative ensuring completeness and accuracy objectives.
- Keep abreast of changes to Global Finance processes and programs, regulatory risks, and identified issues which may have an impact on monitoring priorities. Concurrently maintain current knowledge of applicable regulatory and operational requirements.
- Establish and Lead the Global Finance Record and Information Management (RIM) program consistent with the Bank’s business priorities, risk framework and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Maintains relationships and works closely with finance management to understand compliance risk in the business and build/adjust our monitoring approach / issue management.
- Conducts a thematic analysis and root cause problem-solving on issues identified by GF by linking them with the overall risks and prioritizing the effectiveness of the controls. Prepare and present comprehensive reports, insights and findings to senior management and GF governance committees.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, regulatory compliance (including IFRS), and financial laws and regulations impacting banks/financial institutions
- Strong understanding of risk and internal controls affecting finance, accounting, and regulatory matters, particularly controls testing methodology and related tools
- Excellent analytical skills—able to review, interpret, and synthesize data to investigate potential exceptions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities, including strong coaching skills
- Highly organized and adept at managing multiple complex projects concurrently, remaining calm and focused amid competing priorities
- Flexible and adaptable, able to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups and business units
- Proven ability to drive success in a high-performing, dynamic small/medium team environment
- University degree or higher in finance, accounting, or related disciplines
- Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA) with strong expertise in audit of internal controls at public accounting firms or similar experience in financial accounting and reporting within a large bank or financial institution.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in more than one of the following areas: Audit, Testing, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting and/or FI Regulatory Reporting.
