Purpose
We are seeking a highly accomplished Director to join Scotiabank’s Mid-Market M&A Advisory team. As a director, you will oversee both execution and deal origination initiatives. You will lead multiple transaction processes while building and maintaining client relationships. You will mentor junior team members and partner closely with Managing Directors.
Accountabilities:
- Transaction Leadership: Lead multiple live M&A and capital raising mandates simultaneously, providing strategic direction and ensuring flawless execution.
- Client Relationships: Act as trusted advisor to owners, CEOs and CFOs; manage client interactions independently with limited Managing Director oversight.
- Business Development: Proactively identify new opportunities, contribute to pitch strategy and assist Managing Directors in originating new mandates.
- Negotiation and Deal Structuring: Lead key negotiations with buyers, sellers and advisors. Provide guidance on structuring and strategic alternatives.
- Team Leadership: Supervise VPs, Associates and Analysts. Set priorities, review outputs and provide mentorship to develop junior talent. Manage and mentor junior bankers, providing oversight on workstreams and fostering professional development. Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
- Quality Control: Ensure that analyses, models and transaction materials meet firm standards before delivery to clients.
- Market Presence: Build visibility through networking, conferences and industry events to strengthen client coverage and personal brand.
- Collaboration: Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, system and knowledge.
- Risk Culture: Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Reporting Relationship: Managing Director and Co-Head, Mid-Market Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory
Dimensions:
- Canadian mergers and acquisitions banker.
- Supporting Scotiabank Investment Banking domestic and international clients as required.
- Geographies covered include Canada and foreign jurisdictions as appropriate
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.
- MBA, CFA, or CPA designation is a strong asset.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant work experience, of which a significant amount was in investment banking.
- Proven track record of leading successful M&A or financing transactions.
- Strong origination mindset with demonstrated ability to source and win business.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational and mentoring capabilities.
Working Conditions
Work in a standard office-based and work-from-home environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Domestic / international travel as required, as appropriate and subject to senior management approval / permission.
