The role:

 

As part of the Global Finance Strategic alignment with the new all bank strategy, the Director, Global Finance Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the execution of key strategic projects and major initiatives focused on accelerating the close process. One of the primary goals will be to collaborate across the bank’s various functions to execute on initiatives which improve our operational efficiency and effectiveness. 

 

The Director contributes to the overall success of Global Finance in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships leveraging broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Perform strategic and business analysis, identifying key issues and proposing recommendations, presenting clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful outcomes.
  • Understand and interpret end-to-end business processes, workflows, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement while managing established governance and controls.
  • Oversee defined project scope to enable timely execution of milestones, including developing and leading exploratory sessions, workshops and interviews with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts. 
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to accelerate the financial close process ensuring buy-in across the bank.
  • In conjunction with Director & Project Manager, oversee execution of project plan to manage deliverables and related timelines working closely with counterparts in Global Finance,  Business Lines, Operations, Product Control, Transformation and Technology teams.
  • Ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement across the bank’s functions to drive sustainable change.
  • Report on key initiatives to senior leadership and operating and steering committees with transparency and appropriate escalations (including project financials, status, risks).
  • Develop cross-functional teams with senior leadership to ensure collaboration, alignment, and all-bank integration.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to support the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with technology in assessing software and tools to automate and streamline processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of innovation within Global Finance.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced business degree.
  • 10+ years minimum of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial close processes and best practices.
  • Project execution and project management experience. 
  • Experience in process automation is an asset.
  • Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to break a problem into logical parts with structured thinking.
  • Superior leadership, interpersonal, and strategic influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a team.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a leadership team.
  • Exceptional planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed relationship management skills to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, and with external vendors.
  • Exceptional presentation and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent knowledge with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
