Purpose

This role sets a vision for how great written communication design can create a competitive advantage for Scotiabank. As the Director, Global Content Experience this role leads a team of talented UX and technical writers and content strategists in envisioning and executing on inspiring content experiences that will support our overall design strategy to provide simple, human-friendly, transparent and understandable financial services to our customers.

Accountabilities

This position holds accountability for executing on our global content experience framework, including:

• You will greatly influence the communication design of experiences that touch millions of users every day


• You care deeply about creating better, smarter content that energizes and educates people with the end goal of helping them become better off financially

• You are an expert writer and storyteller who can create global, scalable frameworks and best practices to ensure we deliver human-friendly, readable and engaging content throughout our digital experiences

• You will understand our users and you are able to synthesize research outcomes into viable content and communication experiences.

• You have a deep interest and experience with content strategy toolkits including: content audits, communication theory/strategy, taxonomic structures, metadata frameworks and semantic theory

• You bring a high level of technical acuity and experience with content management systems and in the of creation of content modules; you will be responsible for content structure and for helping to assess the validity of content management systems as required.

• You are a champion when it comes to communicating complex information clearly, simply and free from jargon. You will use these skills to communicate the Content Experience strategy across all levels of the organization

• You are a digital native who understands how design and content come together; you know that a story that will be told across multiple experiences and may come in many different forms including text, imagery, and video.

• You are an inspiring leader and will build, coach and mentor a team of content professionals, including UX writers, technical writers and content strategists

• You will drive best practices for creating and managing content across multiple digital experiences
• You are open, persuasive, engaging and love to have a good laugh – you also know when it’s important to get serious and be a champion for the end user

 

Education:

• 7-10+ years as a UX writer, UX content strategist, copywriter or digital content manager

• A demonstrable portfolio of work (professional and personal) which showcases the digital applications you’ve worked on and includes examples of your story-telling skills 


• A positive and resilient personality. You must be able to embrace feedback and have a desire for continuous iteration and improvement


• A demonstrable history of applying design thinking tenants and user centered design principles to challenges at work or in everyday life

• An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to act both strategically and tactically

• A natural storyteller with the ability to craft and communicate compelling stories that add clarity and inspire passion in our mission.

• A collaborative leader who leverages diversity across disciplines/locations/levels to fuel creativity

• Deep understanding of human-centered approach and methods to design.

• Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get it done.

• A passion for changing the way people bank and a willingness to live in the future and build what’s missing.

• Ability to build and execute design research methodologies or user testing protocols in a rapid development environment

• Demonstrated interest in tangential fields like typography, design research, big data, fine art, music, journalism, etc.
