The Director, Enterprise Risk Governance leads the continued development, implementation, management and communication of the Enterprise Risk Appetite Framework (RAF), and the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework including ensuring the department’s business strategies, plans and initiatives are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, industry best practices, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Leads the continued development and enhancement, implementation, and communication of the Enterprise Risk Appetite Framework (RAF), including providing oversight and challenge over lower tier RAFs (e.g. Business Line, Control Function, business units, material subsidiaries), and ensures they are consistent with internal requirements, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Responsible for the following RAF related processes:
- establishment of the overarching Enterprise Risk Capacity and Appetite, including advice, council and effective challenge
- providing input into the annual strategic planning process,
- quarterly reporting of risk appetite metrics in the ERM report to the Board,
- monitoring of risk appetite limits, and
- updating the Bank’s Annual Report disclosures with respect to risk appetite.
- Leads the continued development and enhancement, implementation, and communication of the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework including providing oversight and challenge over subsidiary Enterprise Risk Management Frameworks, and ensures they are consistent with internal requirements, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Coordinate Risk Management updates into the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) of the Bank’s Annual Report.
- Ensure consistency with governing regulations, internal requirements and industry best practices when developing and implement comprehensive governance documents for Key Risk Indicators, Key Performance Indicators, and Key Control Indicators across the organization.
- Maintains ongoing awareness of industry best practices and regulatory requirements with respect to risk appetite and communicates findings with recommendations to management. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert on risk appetite, implementing enhancements to ensure the Bank meets and/or exceeds best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for the continued development and enhancement of the Risk Culture & Appetite e-Learning course which serves as a foundational course for the Global Mandatory Learning Program.
- Leads the annual CRO submission to the Human Resources Committee of the Board on the appropriateness of incentive plan payouts in relation to risk-related considerations.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders including business line and control and corporate function representatives (e.g. compliance, legal, audit, etc.) to maintain effective internal communication through the ongoing sharing and acquiring of information.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective area, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- University degree is required
- Post-secondary degree (e.g. MBA) and/or relevant designations (e.g. CPA, CA, CFA) preferred
- Strong understanding of risk frameworks, risk management, the Bank’s operations and financial sector risks
- Experience in Enterprise Risk Management, effective challenge and knowledge of Enterprise Risk processes
- Results oriented and driven individual with a continuous improvement mindset
- Superior communication skills and ability to write clearly and concisely
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to problem-solve and execute multiple projects at any given time
- Superior interpersonal skills to work effectively with multiple internal stakeholders and management at various levels
- Spanish language fluency would be an asset, but not required
