Purpose


Leads and oversees the Data Governance and Analytics team, a unit within Risk Management and Business Controls, ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.  

 

The Data Governance and Analytics team is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Bank’s Data Governance Policy and Framework across Asset Management and driving the usage of data driven insights to support key business processes and objectives. 

 

Accountabilities 
•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

 

•    Data Governance and Management
o    Develops and maintains standards and procedures to effectively manage and govern data throughout the data lifecycle and consistent with Bank’s Data Governance Policy and Framework.
o    Acts as or assists Data Stewards in ensuring the assigned domains operates within established standards and policy.  Represents Asset Management on Domain Working Groups. 
o    Evaluates data quality controls and develops/coordinates action plans to remediate identified gaps.
o    Coordinates with the Enterprise Data Office, Business Unit Heads, Business Solutions, and IT&S.
 
•    Reporting and Analytics 
o    Develops and implements the data analytics model including acting as the center of expertise to support analytics and reporting needs across asset management.  
o    Develops the data analytics strategy and roadmap working with business unit heads. 
o    Deliver analytical projects that provide actionable insights for business strategies and performance (customer, financial, and risk/operational).
o    Designs and maintains KPI / KRI dashboards which measure and provide insight into financial, operational, and risk considerations.
o    Prepare & present findings to executives and senior management with business insights and recommendations.

 

•    Leads initiatives to deliver improved processes and controls by leveraging data and analytics.

 

•    Drives day to day activities and decisions are consistent with the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture.

 

•    Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

 

•    Builds a high-performance culture and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team 

 

Reporting to:    Vice President, Risk Management, Controls and Data
Direct Reports:    •    Senior Analysts

         
•    Works closely with partners in Asset Management, Compliance, Finance, and other support functions.  Ability to collaborate and manage relationships and stakeholder expectations is critical.

 

Education / Experience / Other Information
•    Knowledge of asset management business including products, systems, and data elements/flows
•    Experience with some of the facets of data lifecycle (governance, architecture, data management, data quality) and data modelling.
•    Strong data mining skills in SQL, R, Python, Hadoop/Hive, etc.
•    Strong communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders is a critical component of this role.
•    Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and critical thinking
•    Advanced degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance/Business Management.  

                                        
Working Conditions
•    Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
