Title: Director, Credit Risk Strategy - Unsecured Lending

Reporting to the Vice President, Retail Risk, Unsecured Lending, the Director, Credit Risk Strategy will develop and execute credit risk strategies, policies, and procedures in order to optimize risk/return for credit cards, unsecured lines of credit, over drafts, and other unsecured lending products. The Director will:
- Ensure credit decisions (approval vs. decline, credit limit assignment) are aligned with risk appetite optimizing risk/return over the long-term
- Drive continuous improvement in strategy effectiveness, leverage champion/challenger capabilities to confirm assumptions and justify changes and identify if any credit risks are or will become in
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify portfolio trends and underlying drivers, and create and present credit committee and senior leadership review packages
- Identify root causes, and formulate and implement credit risk strategies to revert unfavourable trends
- Collaborate across various parts of the consumer credit lifecycle (origination, account management, collections, etc.)
- Work closely with business line partners to achieve shared profitable growth objectives within the Bank’s risk appetite
- Lead a high-performing team to ensure a proactive and agile approach
- Require technical expertise including experience with risk technologies, data reporting and analytics, portfolio management and behavior scoring to optimize strategies, policies and business rules, as well as a deep understanding of credit bureau data

- Direct the development and implementation of credit risk origination strategies, policies, procedures, and systems for Canadian unsecured lending, with goal of using empirical decision models to approve credit, set customer credit exposure, and determine risk adjusted price.
- Ensure all new approved credit is aligned with risk appetite and will optimize risk/return over the long term.
- Report regularly on performance of existing strategies and identify improvement areas.
- Create a test and learn framework specific to emerging business strategies to identify future opportunities using applicable risk technologies.
- Promote best practices and leverage appropriate risk technologies for all strategy and policy changes.
- Portfolio Monitoring

- Evaluate the performance on a monthly basis of risk-related strategies and liaise with business partners to assess current and emerging trends and impact to portfolio.
- Drive continuous improvements with focus on risk/return while ensuring alignment with Credit Risk Appetite.
- Proactively identify if any credit risks are or will become in excess of the Risk Appetite Framework.
- Move quickly to rectify including: identifying root cause, making recommendations to senior management, and implementing any recommended changes to origination and business line strategies.
- Support Business Line Initiatives/Projects

- Ensure all business line strategic priorities (i.e. growth, new product launches, new channels, new processes, new business line acquisitions) are consistent with Risk Appetite Framework.
- Be an active participant in cross-functional initiatives to improve Unsecured lending performance. This includes the review of business cases, risk proposals, requirements documents and liaising with the appropriate groups throughout the organization.
- Influence other partners in data infrastructure, modelling, provisions, fraud and internal audit to achieve shared business objectives and win as one team

- Lead and motivate a high-performing team. As needed, assess and upskill talents
- Interact with partner departments across the Bank and various vendors to ensure all credit risk customer management strategies meet industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Utilize excellent data storytelling skills to present to senior leadership with impactful analysis and advisory
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:
- A minimum of 5 years with a financial services organization in the credit risk management field, specifically, hands-on experience with unsecured lending products (credit card, line of credit, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, statistics, economics or finance is required. MBA, CFA or FRM a strong asset
- Strong data analytic and logical thinking ability, with a track record of data-driven decision making.
- Working knowledge of at least one of the data analytics tools, such as SAS, SQL, R, Python and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI
- At least 5 years of people management experience. Strong project management and leadership skills to prioritize manage and implement a variety of competing initiatives, on a concurrent or staggered basis
- Excellent communication and written skills complemented with solid deductive reasoning, sound judgement and data storytelling.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to adjust communication style based on the audience.
