Director, Credit Documentation – Commercial Banking Operations / Canadian Commercial Bank
Purpose
The Director, Credit Documentation leads and oversees the centralized Credit Documentation Team within Commercial National Office in Canadian Commercial Banking ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This team acts as a center of expertise within CCB to manage credit documentation efficiently within the Bank’s risk tolerance. The team is responsible for the accurate and timely creation, preparation, and quality assurance of Credit Facility Agreements (CFAs), default letters, amending letters and related documentation for all Commercial Banking teams.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage the Credit Documentation Team responsible for end-to-end documentation processes, including CFA drafting, validation, and quality assurance with a business, client-centric approach.
- Uses his/her in-depth knowledge about Canadian Commercial Banking and GRM; as well as applicable compliance and regulatory requirements, to ensure all documentation is prepared in accordance with internal policies, legal standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of quality assurance (QA) protocols to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance. Champion a culture of compliance, operational efficiency, and client service excellence. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Highly engaged with credit officers and bankers, collaborates with key stakeholders including Credit Adjudication, Legal, Risk, and Relationship Management teams to ensure alignment and timely delivery of documentation.
- Act as the escalation point for complex documentation issues and ensure timely resolution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, and documentation standardization. Escalates repetitive obstacles, within or across business lines, to his/her management and assists in bringing the appropriate stakeholders together to create and implement lasting solutions.
- Maintain strong controls and audit readiness across all documentation processes.
- Support the Bank’s Performance Management processes by coaching team members, managing performance, and developing succession plans.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Dimensions:
• Team size: Approx. 10
• Oversight of centralized documentation support for all Commercial Banking teams across Canada.
• Responsible for managing high volumes of complex credit documentation with strict turnaround times.
• Ensures compliance with internal controls, regulatory frameworks, and audit standards.
• Leads QA initiatives and reporting to monitor documentation accuracy and team performance.
• Participates in enterprise-wide projects and pilots related to documentation modernization related initiatives.
• Works with the Bank’s Legal department and other internal stakeholders to ensure documentation templates are up-to-date, and incorporate the latest regulatory, and credit requirements.
Education / Experience / Other Information:
• Post-secondary degree in Business, Law, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Financial Services, with at least 5 years in a leadership role with direct reports.
• Deep understanding of credit documentation, commercial lending practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of the Bank’s Credit and Client Systems including nCino, Salesforce, CIS, etc.
• Experience managing documentation or operations teams in a highly regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of compliance, audit, and risk management frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and drive process improvements.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
• A client-centric approach to the role is essential.
Working Conditions:
• Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
• Limited domestic travel may be required.
