As the Director, Commercial Card Sales you will lead and oversee Global Business Payments Commercial Card/Visa Payables sales in Canada and the US ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.


What will you do?


•    Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.


•    Leads and manages a team of salespeople.


-    Works with GBP management to establish business plans and distribute performance objectives and goals for his/her sector/geography appropriately 
-    Ensures staff are knowledgeable of products, services and procedures relative to the needs of the customers and market area they serve 
-    Provides/ensures an excellent and consistent level of customer service in dealings with both internal and external customers
-    Works closely and collaboratively with our partners (Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, GBP Commercial Card Product, Service, and Pricing both in identifying opportunities and in assisting in pricing and structuring of the product as appropriate
-    Monitors performance, providing timely feedback, conduct coaching sessions, skill-building sessions, and regular touch bases
-    Prepares and obtains agreement on individualized development plans for all Direct Reports
-    Recruits, develops, and retains high potential employees 
-    Ensures the timely and accurate completion and submission of business development reporting

•    Develops tactical strategies to support the overall strategy for Global Business Payments Sales to achieve business objectives.

-    Sets objectives, prioritizing initiatives, anticipating and planning for potential risks and opportunities
-    Recommends initiatives on specific industry opportunities and sales strategies and providing input to senior management as appropriate
-    Assists team on large, complex proposals and needs analysis and being the main negotiator on compensation issues for key accounts as required
-    Where there is a GBP relationship responsibility for the client base, ensuring a high level of customer service for GBP products, acting as an escalation point for customer service issues and ensuring appropriate existing client coverage (i.e. retention of business)


•    Responsible for maintaining oversight of portfolio credit risk

-    Ensure team has appropriate awareness of individual customer financial situation
-    Timely escalation of all changes to the credit risk profile
-    Work with Partners to ensure an appropriate level of decision/communication relating to all credit issues 


•    Maintains a market profile within the assigned market area with both internal and external contacts by:

-    Identifies key business contacts within the market area and establishes/maintains a relationship
-    Identifying and facilitating the involvement of appropriate level sales team members and other stakeholders to further business interests 
-    Supports senior management calls in the assigned region to increase the Bank’s profile and presence 
-    Participates in various industry functions where appropriate


•       Promotes referrals to other parts of Scotiabank Group by:

-    Keeps abreast of product offerings from all business lines and identities potential fits from those products with our client base 
-    Monitors and promotes continuous improvement in individual and group referral results 


•    Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.


•    Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 


•    Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? 


•    You have a minimum of 10 years of banking experience
•    You have a University degree (undergraduate at minimum)
•    You have expert knowledge of the commercial card and virtual card payments business
•    You have a working knowledge of credit risk associated with a commercial card portfolio
•    You are an experienced banker with exceptional interpersonal, leadership, sales and business development skills
•    You have a working knowledge of the North American corporate cash management and deposit industries 
•    You have a thorough knowledge of the financial services industry, including regulatory trends and economic conditions as they related to short-term investment products
