Capital Management is an important strategic priority of the Bank in supporting the maximization of shareholder value.  This role plays an important part of the Capital Management team in Global Finance that will assist Executive Management in achieving strategic goals in this regard.  The purpose of this job is to ensure that Executive Management receive sufficient and appropriate capital management information to assist them in making strategic decisions that impact the Bank and its global operations.  This will require the incumbent to build and maintain appropriate MIS that is integrated with other information used for decision-making purposes and to ensure that appropriate strategic relationships are built across all areas of the Bank whose operating decisions impact capital.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Research, analyze and coordinate the development of the Bank’s Capital Management Policy and the appropriate monitoring against the policy.  
  • Build, enhance, revise, manage and maintain the Bank's capital forecasting models.  Specifically, keep abreast of the changing business profile, regulatory capital changes and resultant demand on capital requirements to ensure value-added MIS flows to management as required. 
  • Develop appropriate MIS related to the Bank’s Capital Planning/Forecasting submission requirements to OSFI and to Senior Management. Provide analytics on the capital impact for proposed changes including acquisitions and what-if scenarios. Address requests for expanded information from OSFI as part of quarterly filing(s).
  • Compile the Bank’s Annual Capital Plan and 3-year Capital Plan.
  • Manage frequent capital forecasts (Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly/as required), for senior management review and strategic decision making.
  • Manage Holistic stress testing of capital on a Monthly/Quarterly basis, as required, for senior management review and strategic decision making.
  • Manage the Bank’s Enterprise Wide Stress Testing process, from a Capital Management perspective. 
  • Support the Bank’s Recovery Planning exercise, from a Capital Management perspective.
  • Support the Bank’s Resolution Plan, from a capital management perspective.
  • Play a senior role in the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Program (ICAAP), including capital planning and adequacy assessment. 
  • Parental Standalone Capital – accountable for the process/development of the reporting system to comply with evolving OSFI requirements.
  • Provide appropriate ‘Advice and Counsel’ on Capital Management processes within key subsidiaries. 
  • Peer capital data – Develop MIS reports on the components and levels of capital amongst industry peers.
  • Provide leadership to motivate team performance and to provide support to the development needs of team members.


Experience / Education:


  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in Finance, preferably within a Bank or financial institution
  • Recognized accounting or finance designation
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to create/develop new processes/policies/models and plan for sizable changes of new initiatives 
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory capital requirements and capital management concepts and best practices including OSFI and Basel
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in order to manage a number of projects
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and decision making
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to assimilate complex information in a short period of time
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong networking relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
