The role: 

 

Global Finance Business Line Financial Reporting is a finance function providing financial management and analytical support to Executive Management.  The Global Finance team supports Canadian Banking, Global Wealth Management, Global Banking and Markets, and Executive Office business units. This role will be reporting to the Vice President – Business Line Reporting. The Director will be primarily responsible for championing initiatives that enhance business line reporting quality, processes and insights within the Global Finance Reporting team.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

 

  • Strengthen and sustain high quality business line reporting processes within Global Finance Reporting, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, well controlled, and decision useful for senior management.
  • Lead initiatives to improve efficiency, controls, and effectiveness of business line reporting processes by diagnosing root causes, addressing underlying issues, and implementing sustainable, scalable solutions on a timely basis.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to lead cross functional initiatives that modernize reporting processes, streamline workflows, and eliminate inefficiencies, leveraging best practices, automation, and standardized approaches where appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance and Technology partners to design and deliver integrated reporting solutions that are aligned to enterprise priorities and long term finance strategies.
  • Elevate reporting outputs by embedding clear analysis and insights, moving beyond variance explanation to highlight trends, risks, and drivers that support informed business and executive decision making.
  • Direct activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.  
  • Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and its Code of Conduct, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Post-secondary degree in business/finance/accounting is required.
  • Professional accounting designation is required. 
  • 10+ years minimum of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding and working experience in IFRS, risks and controls assessment, governance and process improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of PeopleSoft EGL, OBI, Excel, Power Point.
  • Strong communication skills such as the ability to communicate analysis / findings and present ideas in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Strong leadership skills and stewardship capabilities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and provide forward thinking recommendations.
  • Ability to relate financial data and develop insights, identify issues and trends.  Proven quantitative and financial analytical skills.
  • Highly adept in problem solving and managing conflict and stakeholder expectations.
  • Highly organized, able to work independently, with demonstrated experience in solving problems and making decisions in time pressured environments.  This role requires the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure for sustained periods of time and multi-task effectively.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to work effectively with others to achieve common objectives. A strong customer focus and ability to initiate and implement change is required.
  • Strong understanding of external and internal reporting controls, processes and requirements.
