Purpose

 

The role supports the GBM business in various capacities (market data, strategy, financial management, etc.) and requires extensive partnership with the business and control/support functions. At the direction of the MD, leads and directs activities delegated by GBM business lines. Provides support toGBM business lines and partners and serves to ensure completion of business as usual and ad-hoc business activities.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  •  Provide timely and relevant information and analysis to the MD and business lines.
  • Consistently deliver timely and thoughtful analysis to the business and management enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.
  • Further develop and maintain relationships with the business and functional teams to influence and support GBM and enterprise objectives.
  • Advocate on behalf of GBM and leverage appropriate resources within and outside of GBM to achieve objectives.
  • In collaboration with the MD, evaluate business rationale of ideas and consider execution requirements with a focus on end-to-end processes and controls.
  • Support the MD in the coordination and execution of GBM strategic projects including new product launches, business and geographic restructurings, resource optimization and other initiatives as assigned.
  • In collaboration with the MD, work with senior business management in establishing and executing objectives. This includes documentation, reporting and tracking until completion.
  • Provide project management and support to teams within the group on key initiatives and programs.
  • Lead/direct/execute delegated tasks from the businesses consistent with the established framework.
  • Perform day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and Code of Conduct.
  • Create an environment in which the team pursues constant improvement and increased rigor around business-as-usual processes and key initiatives.
  • Work with the MD in building a high-performance environment and assist in implementing a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates by fostering an inclusive work environment through coaching.
  • In collaboration with the MD, lead Ad-hoc requests from Executive Management and the Business Lines;
  • Other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time.

 

 

What You'll Bring:

  •  At least five years’ experience in a capital markets function
  • In-depth knowledge of capital markets business.
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end processes and ability to deal with a breadth of emerging issue in a timely manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communications and inter-personal skills.
  • GBM contributes ~30% to the total net income of the Scotiabank Group.
  • Complex and very different business lines in GBM.
  • The incumbent is expected to maintain an in-depth knowledge of operational conditions throughout the applicable Business Lines and the state of regulatory matters, be able to resolve issues of non-compliance and to escalate issues promptly that are deemed to be serious or have broad impact.
  • The incumbent should be able, on his/her own initiative, to resolve issues and also recognize the need to involve his/her supervisor/s and/or Subject Matter Experts when required.
