The Director, Finance Business Partner, Canadian Business Banking plays a key role in providing strategic finance and operational support to Business Banking’s leadership team, leading performance management, and strategic advisory to ensure alignment with Canadian Banking commitments and all Bank strategic objectives. The Director is responsible for overseeing the finance partnership, delivering insights that drive performance and capital efficiency, risk oversight, financial intelligence and strategic decision making. The incumbent will partner closely with Business Banking’s executives, providing critical insights, driving the strategic business and financial planning process, and coordinating efforts across multiple segments to elevate profitability measurement and support business priorities. In addition, the Director will act as a liaison between Business, Finance and internal partners to advance key strategic initiatives. The position reports to the Vice President, Canadian Commercial & Business Banking Finance, CB Finance. The Director will drive the overall success of the Finance team by executing on key goals, plans, and initiatives aligned with Canadian Banking and Global Finance strategic objectives. All activities will be conducted in strict compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Serve as the primary finance advisor to Business Banking’s executive leadership team, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and drive business performance
- Manage and coordinate strategic business and financial planning & analysis
- Lead the monthly and quarterly performance review processes for Business Banking, manage the production of all KPIs and executive materials including MMR, QMR, Bluebook and MPC
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to provide actionable insights to senior management, evaluating financial performance and key strategic metrics
- Provide timely insights on profitability measurement across multiple segments and make recommendations to enhance return metrics including RORWA and ROE
- Lead special projects and strategic initiatives that drive Business Banking, CB and Finance priorities
- Deliver and support detailed analysis, MD&A, stress tests, investor presentations, board slides, supplementary reports, and senior management Scorecards
- Collaborate with Finance, Business and all internal stakeholders to advance enterprise priorities
- Track Non-Interest Expenses across all segments and regions
- Research, explore and identify alternatives to maximize benefits and increase revenues while minimizing costs
- Design and create management reports to provide a clear and precise picture and recommendations on budget usage and variance on a regular basis for effective expense control and decision making
- Review and monitor all cost categories including allocated expenses and ensure adequate scrutiny on allocation methodology and cost of business
- Ensure expenses are in accordance with the Bank’s policies and guidelines
- Manage, monitor and report on complement and overruns to ensure Plan FTE targets are met
- Ensure proper operational parameters are implemented and followed, coordinating with all partners for effective controls
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance and risk
- Develop and monitor financial models for ad-hoc analyses, consolidating data to review variances, trends, or sensitivity analyses
- Ensure the integrity and reliability of financial results and oversee the timely completion of financial reporting processes.

- Cultivate and manage relationships within business and key partners including Operations, GRM, GTB, Treasury, Capital Management, Accounting and Strategy
- Evaluate and recommend alternates to meet initiative objectives and deadlines while improving efficiencies and enhancing collaboration
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or related fields
- MBA or master’s degree in finance, CFA, CPA, or other designations are an asset
- A minimum of 8-12 years experience in a related position with strong knowledge in managerial accounting and financial management
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills, working closely with senior executives
- Proactive with excellent communication skills (written, verbal as well as presentation)
- Highly familiar with accounting practices, taxation, and transfer pricing
- Very strong in Excel, PowerPoint and the Bank’s accounting/finance systems such as OBI, Hyperion and Anaplan
- Highly curious with attention to detail with superior analytical skills
- Strong process management, planning and organization skills to facilitate teamwork and coordinate execution of multiple deliverables
- A strong understanding of the Bank’s established processes, policies and guidelines around financial accounting and financial management
- Flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks & functions with changing demands
