Leads and oversees the asset sales and oversight team for International Banking, ensuring activities are executed soundly and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Director of Asset Sales and Oversight acts as a subject matter expert on non-performing asset sales (i.e., distressed or written off) and manages pre-contract strategy, outreach, negotiation, and due diligence to ensure optimal pricing and risk management. Additionally, they provide post-contract governance and counsel to country risk teams to ensure effective risk practices and processes are in place. The Director is accountable for the development of the asset sale target operating model and ongoing sustainment to drive efficiency, impact, and compliance. Retail - including Small Business - asset sales can occur across various portfolios concurrently and contribute to the overall effectiveness of retail collections and recoveries. Future scope may expand to related portfolios or services in other Divisions or business segments.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Heads the Asset Sale and Oversight team for International Banking and collaborates with internal stakeholders to align non-performing asset sale strategies with retail collections and recovery goals.
- Develops and implements asset sales strategies that align with the Bank and country’s goals, and in alignment with regulatory obligations. Mitigates risks/loss to the Bank by ensuring adherence to credit risk management policies, operational guidelines, and code of conduct.
- Manages pre-contract activities, in partnership with country or portfolio leaders, ensuring thorough due diligence to maximize recovery and minimize risk. This includes pre-contract strategy, structuring transactions, marketing outreach, timely third-party negotiation, incorporating country input for valuation, and final recommendations.
- Ensures accounts in the datasets presented to potential buyers meet the country's eligibility and exclusion criteria and accurately reflect the sale portfolio. Verifies that the contract agreements align with the country's operational and data capabilities for forward flow or spot sale transactions.
- Provides expert guidance and governance to country and regional teams on post-contract asset sale management and risk practices. Ensures timely execution of operational requirements and escalates concerns when in-country attention is needed or there are delays in meeting contract commitments.
- Monitors and reports on asset sale performance to various levels of Executive Leadership, providing updates, insights, and recommendations for transactions, risk management, issues, and opportunities.
- Remains abreast of industry trends, key players, and market behaviors to support the Bank’s competitiveness to potential buyers. Ensures effective communication and coordination with external buyers, legal teams, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to execute successful transactions while maintaining the highest standards of compliance.
- Drives continuous improvement of non-performing asset sale activities in support of effective collections and recoveries, including development of the target operating model, streamlining, and/or integration of automation and technology. Ensures that off-model or related audit issues are remediated by accountable parties and enforces sustainment of effective practices.
- Participates in GRM Transformation program and other risk projects as delegated. Supports potential expansion of non-performing asset sale activities to related portfolios, services, teams, or scope.
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Undergraduate degree or higher required. Degree in business, economics, statistics or finance preferred
- 10-15 years of relevant work experience
- Expert knowledge of Retail and Small Business Credit products
- Expert knowledge of Asset sale practices, and debt recovery legislation, policies, practices across all IB markets
- Thorough knowledge of Divisional departments and major stakeholders; external marketplace; Bank systems; project management disciplines; HR and Performance Management practices
- Good understanding of the Bank’s business plans and objectives
- Experience in complex project and program management
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to design and interpret information/data required to make recommendations and monitor performance
- Excellent communication skills to articulate viewpoints / opinions to all levels within the Bank. The incumbent must be able to represent Scotiabank to various external parties or regulators.
- Spanish fluency required
