Purpose

Reporting to the VP, GWMS, the Director, as the technology owner, will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and oversight of the Global Asset Management Technology team ensuring business and technology strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, and internal policies and procedures. They will build and manage foundational components for Global Asset Management using modern technology that leverage current processes and increase velocity while reducing cost/effort. The Director’s role includes developing and implementing the appropriate technology strategy, which mitigates operational risk and delivers value, in collaboration with Global Asset Management stakeholders and regional Technology teams.

 

The Director will manage all technology aspects of Global Asset Management. The Director will actively pursue increasing business value through the delivery of cost‐effective vendor‐hosted and internal solutions and the effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to‐day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, and conduct risk. This includes but is not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Business Outsourcing Framework and Guidelines for Business Conduct. It also includes supporting and responding to internal/external Audit, Third‐Party Risk, Privacy Office and Regulatory reviews and findings.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Delivery and management of highly complex technology programs (including the Jarislowsky Fraser Limited integration) which consist of multiple Technology projects for multiple business partners and stakeholders, across multiple business units. Serve as a sponsor for driving down operational costs using Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation. Pass solutions developed back to GWMS and the wider enterprise.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for managing resources, technology direction, and alignment of business technology roadmaps across Global Asset Management.
  • Vendor management and engagement for key systems such as Simcorp Dimension and Charles River ensuring synergistic utilization of vendor partnerships while simultaneously containing costs. Holding vendors accountable for quality of deliverables and service provision.
  • Responsible for monthly financials:
  • Reporting, tracking, measuring and monitoring for the supporting Finance Office, and 
  • Monitoring and integration of contractor pool, and IT&S Operational Budget tracking and monitoring.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)

  • The incumbent must have at least 7-10 years of IT and business/industry work experience.
  • The incumbent must have systems knowledge and experience (existing systems and new technologies).
  • Business knowledge and experience (understanding of vision, financial objectives/how business functions and core processes interact/the strategic importance of projects, how they relate to Scotiabank's goals, how projects interact/impact of change and/or delays in projects).
  • Process knowledge and experience in scheduling, resource allocation, risk management and systems design.
  • Critical thinking, continuous improvement and transformation in leading the group delivering high performance while aligning to group and Bank’s strategic direction.
  • Experience in the project management of highly complex technology projects.
  • Experience in vendor management, including contract negotiations and managing outsourcers.
  • Experience in managing offshore resources.
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing software projects and programs.
  • The incumbent will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, OR equivalent work experience.
